Taken in late 2003 in the ice fields near Churchill, Canada. This adult male polar bear had been around some, as can be seen by the scars on his face and the broken claw. He just continued staring straight at me (thinking about lunch, perhaps?) as I pointed the camera -- zoom fully extended -- at him. He allowed me a nice series of photos.
