Yes, however in my opinion a picture that wins a competition should technically be well executed too, skill and expression of emotion should compliment each other!

You know, this is not the super-sharp eye focus challenge. This image is moving. I think it deserves the win.

Technically it's not perfect indeed (focus, and it could use a little bit more room at the bottom IMO) but still I think it's a great picture. It immediately attracted my attention. It's simple, real-life, it raises questions -and the color palette is lovely.

Why is this pic selected? The focus is not even on her eyes its behind her. I don't understand!!!

It might be because the Song (the brief) is more represented in the image than one that is more in focus. I think that it is about interpretation and story. The anomaly that I see maybe is that it got significantly more votes cast than other images. So, voters are not voting on all images

Or voters interpret the title of the challenge literally, instead of what it could meaning within the story, thus where the real focus should had been. It remains to see if voters took care to read the lyrics
