Re: end of dedicated cameras - No, not the beginning; the beginning of the end was probably when Samsung saw the future back in 2016 and shut down it's NEX line (which was years ahead of it's time), or maybe even when the industry went digital. News gathering has been done on phones & security cams for quite a while (wasn't George Floyd's death recorded on a phone held by a school girl?)

On a seprate note, a cell phone camera has beat out all m4/3, APS-C and FF cameras and lenses. Is this the beginning of the end of dedicated cameras/lenses winning camera competitions?

It's more to do with the good composition and the scene than which camera took it but you are right in the sense that the phone camera didn't embarrass itself, which you couldn't have said a few years ago.
