The original picture wouldn't IMO have been so bad, (except the background), BUT the softening/smudging of the car itself doesn't do good at all, and might explain the voting result. Yes the background people would have been disturbing, but perhaps they could have been softened/darkened/removed without softening/smudging the car itself.

My pet peeve is pedestrians and licence plates. In a busy venue like this, it's difficult to get any clear shot of car, but sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
