Mesquite Sand Dunes in Death Valley National Park, California, USA. Due to their close proximity to the road (Death Valley Scenic Byway), these sand dunes are a popular tourist attraction, and have served as the desert setting for many Hollywood movies (including Star Wars).
This photograph, taken at 9 meters below sea level, represents the extremes common to the area. The peaks surrounding the valley top-out at around 3300 meters while the desert floor rests 85.5 meters below sea level.
