Once a year, around the anniversary of the first lighting of the Pigeon Point Lighthouse, the usual Coast Guard light is turned off and the 19th Century first-order Fresnel lens is turned on for a few hours. The event has become a local event with hundreds of folks from the central California coast coming to watch the spokes of light cast by the lens.
