"Wabi-Sabi" PENTAX Main Challenge Challenge finished on Monday, 05 Apr 2010 Wabi-Sabi in it's barest essence is the Japanese art of finding beauty in things imperfect whether in nature or manmade. Examples, an old handmade vase that shows it's pitt marks and scratches due to age, usage and handmade imperfections rather than one that is mass produced shiny and new. An outdoor furniture piece that shows it's passage of time from usage and weather. Leaves at the end of their cycle discoloured and scattered randomly on the ground. A fallen tree log that has probably layed there for a few years and is covered in moss/fungi etc... Perhaps the closest word in the English language to Wabi-Sabi is "Rustic" although this is only a small part of the Wabi-Sabi aesthetic. Important note: please disregard "Capture Date" rules. Photos MUST be taken during the month of March 2010.
Winner: Chequered Swallowtail
> Butterfly/Butteflies Challenge finished on Monday, 05 Apr 2010 This is a challenge about real butterflies (moths allowed). 'Look Sharp'/ 'Dressed for Success' Challenge finished on Monday, 05 Apr 2010 Yes, it's another theme inspired by the 80s/90s. Take a shot of one main male or female adult human subject (*Posed* or *Unposed*) that shouts out the title best. The subject may be clothed in his/her suit/evening dress/native suit/etc... Tribute to: Arnold Newman Challenge finished on Sunday, 04 Apr 2010 Arnold Newman's environmental portraits offer the world unique images of famous-and not so famous-people. His images show people within an environment that says much about them. Often a very personal aspect of the subject is revealed by the surroundings and the decisive moment in which Mr. Newman captures his subject. This challenge for images which reflect Arnold Newman's style of environmental portraiture. Because he often worked on a tight schedule (famous people often allow only a few minutes for a private session) there is a date restriction for submitted images. Please read addtional rules. Thanks.
