SPRING HAS SPRUNG! Challenge finished on Friday, 09 Apr 2010 In the northern hemisphere, Spring is officially here! Budding flowers and trees, the return of birds, spring showers, people and animals emerging from their long winter. Show us quintessential springy things...try to capture the essence of Spring itself
Sports played on Snow Challenge finished on Friday, 09 Apr 2010 My second sports related challenge is going to be something I have no experience with. Also, no example photo! I live in Louisiana and there is no snow that ever accumulates on the ground. Okay, once every ten years. Show us an image (of game action) from a sport played on ice like cross country skiing, etc.

The Far Side Challenge finished on Tuesday, 06 Apr 2010 The Far Side is a comics series created by the warped mind of Gary Larson. The surrealistic humor in these comics is "often based on uncomfortable social situations, improbable events, an anthropomorphic view of the world, logical fallacies, impending bizarre disasters, or the search for meaning in life". This challenge isn't so much about *reenacting* one of Larson's strips (though it's ok if that's what you want to submit) but rather about coming up with your own ideas inspired by Larson's kind of humor. Entries can be single scenes or a series of panels.
Winner: Then and now
Vertical reality Challenge finished on Tuesday, 06 Apr 2010 I'd like to see only vertical shots here, of things that are vertical or very high up in the air (and I'm not talking birds or plains, of course). Preferably shoot looking down :-)
"Wabi-Sabi" PENTAX Main Challenge Challenge finished on Monday, 05 Apr 2010 Wabi-Sabi in it's barest essence is the Japanese art of finding beauty in things imperfect whether in nature or manmade. Examples, an old handmade vase that shows it's pitt marks and scratches due to age, usage and handmade imperfections rather than one that is mass produced shiny and new. An outdoor furniture piece that shows it's passage of time from usage and weather. Leaves at the end of their cycle discoloured and scattered randomly on the ground. A fallen tree log that has probably layed there for a few years and is covered in moss/fungi etc... Perhaps the closest word in the English language to Wabi-Sabi is "Rustic" although this is only a small part of the Wabi-Sabi aesthetic. Important note: please disregard "Capture Date" rules. Photos MUST be taken during the month of March 2010.
