Composition: Foreground Framing Challenge finished on Saturday, 24 Oct 2009 Finding a good, well-lit subject is the first challenge faced by a photographer. The second is how to compose the shot. One technique calls for "framing" the subject with foreground elements; this helps draw the viewer's eye to the subject. For this challenge, submit an image that includes distinct, but OUT OF FOCUS, foreground framing elements. See the "Additional rules" and refer to the sample images for illustration.

Beyond Human Perception Challenge finished on Thursday, 22 Oct 2009 Most of the photos people take use the camera to capture what people see; the challenge is to capture things that a person normally would NOT be able to see. The subject might be unseen because it is imaged in NIR (near infrared), happens too quickly (use a fast shutter or flash) or too slowly (use a long exposure or time lapse stacking) for human perception, is seen from a place your camera can go but you can't, etc.
