Dramatic Light: Back Lighting, Rim Lighting Challenge finished on Saturday, 29 Aug 2009 Amateur film used to come with tips - including how to light your subject by putting the light source behind you (shoot with the sun at your back). By now you've probably recognized that shooting into the light can create a dramatically different look ... if you get the exposure correct. For the best effect, make sure your subject is against a dark background. Show us your best example of a well exposed rim lit or back lit subject. (This challenge requires effort. Please note Additional rules and examine the sample images.)

Same Object, Different Form Challenge finished on Friday, 28 Aug 2009 Post a shot of an object in 'TWO' different forms- e.g. water and ice, hard boiled and fried eggs. Both these forms/ subjects must be in the SAME photo- do not submit two separate photos (merged into one). Go wild with your imagination and think about a subject that exists in two forms. Please do not include any people or animals in the image. For this challenge, the image must be taken AFTER the announcement date of the challenge. Note: Any complaints about the entries, must be submitted ONLY during the submission phase. Once the submission phase ends and voting starts, complaints will not be entertained.

Earth Textures: Patterns in stone Challenge finished on Wednesday, 26 Aug 2009 Patterns of geology, rock outcroppings, or even photomicrographs. The earth produces many different kinds of patterns, from columnar jointing to layered strata, and sand dunes. No plants, please, or animals. Just rocks. (Glacial ice, and sand dunes or other sedimentary deposits are also permitted.) No landscape shots--just images that show abstract geologic patterns at any scale.
