Post-Processing Challenge finished on Monday, 28 Sep 2009 Post-processing or retouching can make or break an image. It can also save others. HRD, smudge, subtle or heavy, it comes in all flavors. Our own "Retouching" forum is a very active little corner of DPR but most of us here at DPR like to do post-processing and retouching.

Dramatic light: Red filtered B&W sky Challenge finished on Saturday, 26 Sep 2009 In ancient times, when Pan-F and Tri-X roamed the planet, clever B&W photographers used a red filter to darken blue skies. This made for startling landscape images. It's impractical to carry a red filter with you today when you can achieve the same result by using your editing software to do a color (channel) separation of your image. This technique gives you three different B&W photos, one if which looks like B&W shot through a red filter. Find an image full of REALLY blue sky. Learn how to create a color separation. Show us the red filtered result.

Any type of Invertebrate animal is okay, e.g. Insects (butterflies, moths, bees, wasps, etc), Spiders, Scorpions, Centipedes, Millipedes, Snails, etc. You may like to view this as an ad-hoc survey of the bugs and other creepy-crawlies that you live with (sometimes unwittingly).

Starry Starry Night! Challenge finished on Friday, 25 Sep 2009 Let's see your favorite shot of the stars. For the purpose of this challenge you can submit shots of stars and longer star trails- however, the star trails/ stars must be clearly visible. Please don't submit an image where you have moonlight or daylight/ twilight washing out the stars. We don't want to see just a little smattering of stars, but a whole lot of great stars against a dark night sky. Please ensure that there are no animals or people in the photograph. All complaints related to entries in this challenge, must be made during the submission phase. Once the submission phase ends and voting starts, complaints will not be entertained. Have fun!
Winner: Cat up a tree!
Vertical Panning Challenge finished on Thursday, 24 Sep 2009 When we think about panning, we generally have visions of cars, animals or other things moving from left to right or vice versa. This time, search for objects moving up or down. Make sure the subject is in focus, and its surroundings are blurred. Do not use post processing to achieve this goal ;)
