Ultra-Fast Lenses Challenge finished on Thursday, 07 Oct 2010 Very large aperture lenses, those with an f/number of f/1.2 or less, don't just let a lot of light in. They also have vanishingly small depth-of-focus. That makes them hard to focus, but often results in beautifully smooth out-of-focus portions of the scene (i.e., very pleasing bokeh). This challenge is for photos shot using a taking aperture marked as f/1.2 or faster. Note that not all ultra-fast lenses are expensive; used special-purpose lenses as fast as f/0.75 can be adapted for macro photography on most DSLRs and EVILs: http://www.instructables.com/id/Using-Ultra-Fast-Lenses-on-DSLR-Cameras/

Off the map Challenge finished on Thursday, 07 Oct 2010 Post a pic with latitude and longitude of the point where the pic was taken Only criteria -> On maps.google.com, there should be no road/track/trail etc., marked within 5km as the crow flies. Entries without latitude/longitude in description or title will be disqualified. I will draw a 5km radius circle around lat/lon, and if it intersects any path/road/trail, entry will be disqualified. If your country/region is not mapped on google, then make sure that the pic is not within 5kms of a road. I will be checking out satellite imagery too The idea is that you should meet the spirit of the challenge.

7 Deadly Sins: Acedia (b&w) Challenge finished on Tuesday, 05 Oct 2010 The 7 Deadly Sins, used since the advent of Christianity, are the most objectionable vices which beckon humans to sin (more info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_deadly_sins). This challenge explores "acedia" (also known as "sloth" or "despair"), its most basic definition being "the failure to utilize one's talents and gifts; laziness; indifference". There are numerous ways to interpret this with imagery and it is now up to your creativity and perhaps a little research to come up with something that portrays this "deadly sin".
