Tribute to: Diane Arbus Challenge finished on Sunday, 27 Dec 2009 Diane Arbus was noted for her particular take on the human condition. It was certainly revealing, honest and at times disturbing. She had a knack for finding and revealing the absurd or bizarre aspects of seemingly ordinary subjects. She produced images which could make a child at play frightening, or a portait of siblings unnerving. In this challenge, offer your images which evoke Diane Arbus' style. Supposedly odinary subjects which appear not so ordinary as they have been captured by the camera. Absurd. Bizarre. Disturbing. Surreal. Please take the time to read, understand and comply with the additional rules. NOTE TO VOTERS: Photos of this style take some careful consideration to assess. Please vote on the larger images, taking time to really look at what the photo has to offer as best you can. Thanks.
Winner: The Persistence of Time
Henri Cartier-Bresson and the Decisive Moment Challenge finished on Sunday, 27 Dec 2009 The theme of this series is POV, so think about the Point of View of a great photographer like Cartier-Bresson and see what you can come up with. Cartier-Bresson was able to catch the 'immediacy of life' in this decisive moment- a singular photograph that releases great excitement and enthusiasm. The following quotation sums up Bresson's feelings: "I had just discovered the Leica. It became the extension of my eye, and I have never been separated from it since I found it. I prowled the streets all day, feeling very strung up and ready to pounce, determined to 'trap' life - to preserve life in the act of living. Above all I craved to seize the whole essence ' the confines of one single photograph, of some situation that was in the process of unrolling itself before my eyes". My Elliott Erwitt challenge has been such a great success and also the W. Eugene Smith challenge hosted by CharlesB58 Now let's try the challenge of taking on another great photographer's POV.
