Summer Picnics & BBQs... Challenge finished on Sunday, 25 Jul 2010 Central idea here is to show activity and capture a fun atmosphere of a picnic or BBQ or similar event. Where people come together to cook, eat, play games, have fun and enjoy each other's company. NO pictures of roasted puppies, guinea pigs, insects, or small children. Your pictures will be immediately deleted without explanation or forethought. If I think it's offensive...that's all the reason I need to hit the delete button.
Keep on running... Challenge finished on Saturday, 24 Jul 2010 This is NOT a people running about the image challenge. What it is is an environmental portrait of the guy or gal that keeps our primary modes of transport up and running. The mechanic. Make sure you capture them in the environment that they do their work. Pay attention to the whole of the frame not just the subject. In other words you need to see the man and his recognisable work space/tools of his trade etc.
Winner: The red intruder
Fields of Flowers Challenge finished on Saturday, 24 Jul 2010 This could be an alpine meadow of flowers to a field of canola in bloom...
Interpretation: Image Manipulation Challenge finished on Saturday, 24 Jul 2010 Who needs reality when you're a master of photo manipulation? Start with an image with a clear and obvious subject. Manipulate the surroundings to put that subject in an otherwise unrealistic location. For example, put a swimsuit clad sun-bather on a snowy mountain or a giraffe walking down main street. IMPORTANT: explain the manipulations (not the technique used, but what you have done to the image).
Journalism - Economics. Challenge finished on Saturday, 24 Jul 2010 Your assignment is for the business section. Source a story, of either local or national economic interest, and capture an image to support it. As well as the photograph you need to create a headline and write a couple of lines of the story to give it context. Voters should assess the relevance of both the headline and text in conjunction with the image. The emphasis is on finding a relevant, current story; entries using still lifes such as coinage, notes etc are liable to be rejected.
Winner: me too

Firework Displays Challenge finished on Friday, 23 Jul 2010 In the US, July 4th is a time for celebration....picnics, parades and fireworks! Show your best firework shots! I'll leave the date of capture open for our non-US friends!
Six of me! Challenge finished on Friday, 23 Jul 2010 Let's get a little creative and have fun. Submit a photo with six of you in the frame (i.e. use multiple exposure/ layers to capture six of yourself in the photo). You can shoot indoors (e.g. have one of you sitting on a couch, the other standing by the TV etc) or outdoors (e.g. in the parks, shopping etc). Since all the photos in this challenge will have six of the photographer, the creative placement of the photographer is what will stand out- so go wild! Edit: I have received a couple of emails requesting me to let people shoot a subject, rather than just the photographer. I would still prefer that you photograph yourself, but you can submit the image with another human subject (i.e. the photographer does not have to be in the photo).
