Tribute to George Hurrell Challenge finished on Sunday, 18 Jul 2010 George Hurrell's photos of movie stars and other celebrities defined "glamor" and "star" for decades. His unique use of lighting instantly together with careful posing identifies his photos as well as provided the inspiration for countless other photographers. So this is a true challenge: submit portraits which capture the essence of George Hurrells lighting style. Yes, I know this will limit some people who don't have access or knowledge of such advanced lighting techniques. But with a little research and know how you'd be surprised how you can emulate Hurrell's lighting set ups with minimum equipment, including do it yourself gear.

Flattery: Reinterpretation Challenge finished on Saturday, 17 Jul 2010 How many times have you looked at a photographer's image and thought "I'd have done it THIS way"? Well, let's see what you've got. Submit an image as soon as you can. Wait a day or two and take a look at the other images submitted. Pick the one you think you can improve, reinterpret it the way you want (either rephotograph or edit/retouch), withdraw your original entry and submit the new (improved) image with credit to the original photographer in the description (if editing someone's image). The idea is not just to show off your skill at reinterpreting another's work, but to see how another photographer would treat your image.
