Chromatic Contrast Challenge finished on Monday, 06 Aug 2012 As an artist, the easiest way to convey contrast is to use color. In color theory we describe two colors that have absolute chromatic contrast as complementary because when used with additive or subtractive light mixing, they complete the color spectrum and produce an achromatic result. You may know these simply as opposite colors. Green, for example, is often said to be the opposite of red. Your challenge is to produce a photography that uses very strong complementary colors. Aside from that requirement, the photograph must simply be aesthetically pleasing. Tips: Computers use an additive light system based on Red, Blue and Green light. Opposites go like this: Red -> Cyan Blue -> Yellow Green - Magenta Violet is just a Bluish Magenta. Orange is just Yellowish Red. You may also use a more traditional set of colors: Blue -> Orange Red -> Green Yellow -> Violet Do some research and experiment with color!
Winner: Clematis Flower

It's Just A Flowering Weed Challenge finished on Saturday, 04 Aug 2012 Flowering weeds can be as beautiful as those plants we cultivate, even though we often think of them as pests. Show us the beauty in these flowers, in their natural world. I know that a weed in one country may be a treasure somewhere else, that's okay, it is what YOU consider to be a weed where you live. Wildflowers in the countryside will be in a separate challenge later; this challenge is just about flowering weeds. Also, I'm NOT referring to the smoking variety of weed. That can be someone else's challenge..... Insects or other small creatures may be present in your entry but must not dominate the picture. SIZE DOES MATTER: See below!
