Insidious Dihydrogen Monoxide (aka H2O) Challenge finished on Friday, 11 Oct 2013 Dihydrogen Monoxide (aka DHMO or H2O) is a chemical that is now pervasive in many parts of the Earth. It pours out of car exhaust pipes and power plant smokestacks, and is a major component of the stuff that comes out of waste treatment plants. Large quantities of DHMO have even been found in many bottled drinks. In this challenge photos are invited which show the insidious nature of this chemical -- for example, how it eats through and damages things, how it sloshes about, how it escapes unbidden into the atmosphere. The theme is to capture this chemical's activity or its effects. Some more examples within the theme, to provide a framework: think about H2O (DHMO) as a deleterious chemical compound, and tell a story of its movement (e.g. spraying, wave action, steam, calving iceberg or glacial flow), or a story of its short-term or long-term effects (e.g. causing stains, rust, erosion, carving pores, crevices, and arroyos, sedimentation). Obviously there is some creative leeway.
Textures: Cloth Challenge finished on Friday, 11 Oct 2013 Show examples of the texture of cloth
Winner: Fasten your seat belts!
The Wind Challenge finished on Friday, 11 Oct 2013 Capture the wind in action. Not the results of wind, but the wind in nature doing it's thing. Please title it and perhaps give an explanation of the settings you used so I can continue to learn and hone the hobby and craft.
WiFi Remote Capture Challenge finished on Thursday, 10 Oct 2013 A challenge for photos taken remotely using WiFi to trigger the shutter of your camera. Lots of cameras now support this, often with apps like Sony's PlayMemories that let you see a live view and trigger the shutter remotely. This certainly lets your camera go places you can't. Is it helping you make better photos?
Winner: Friendly Fellow

Most of the Middle East--Its People Challenge finished on Thursday, 10 Oct 2013 I have no idea how many or how few people have been to these countries, so I am combining the following countries into this challenge: (1) Saudi Arabia; (2) Iraq; (3) Iran; (4)Yemen); (5) Qatar; (6) Oman; (7) the UAE; and (8) Kuwait. There will be separate challenges in a few weeks, for Israel; Egypt; Turkey; Jordan; and Syria & Lebanon--since it's my sense that we'll find more DPR members with photos of those reigons. For this challenge, I will start with my usual limit of 35 entries. But if it fills up quickly, I will make an exception and will increase the number of entries. As usual for my challenges, Entrants are required to (1) vote for each other entry, (2) read the comments (if any) below this challenge, in case I or other entrants post with Rules questions or clarifications, and (3) follow each of the challenge rules...including voting WITHIN THE FIRST SIX DAYS of the challenge.
