Winner: erosion layers in antelope canyon, arizona
Natural Layers Challenge finished on Saturday, 26 Sep 2015 In this challenge, show us interesting examples of layers or strata in nature. This might be sedimentary layers in rocks, laid down over millions of years, and seen by us now because of erosion. It might be close-up pictures of fruit, vegetables or seeds, with their protective hard outer layers, another softer layer beneath the skin then the fruit pulp within. Perhaps a tree has fallen, and you've captured the cross-section of the trunk, with its many layers of growth and bark. Evidence of man, or man-made objects should be minimal. Macro and close-ups welcome. Size: 1,600px on the entry's longer side.
