FEAR ** READ THE RULES ** Challenge finished on Tuesday, 19 Aug 2014 Fear has driven Humans from the dawn of time....It still does! Civilization & comfortable good times (mainly in the Developed Western World) has driven us to mostly hide or avoid the discomfort of fear from our conscious thoughts & everyday interactions. Conscious fear still plays a part in our lives, but in more trivial forms such as "am I liked" or "will I lose my job" etc. Fortunately for us genuine, bone trembling fear is alive & well & living deep inside our subconscious. Without it we just would not be Human. Dig deep. Find, confront & explore your deep seated fears. Draw upon your childhood memories, your dreams, nightmares or real experiences. Produce one image that clearly communicates & illustrates one or more of your most dreaded fears. ** READ THE RULES **

Harmony of Colours in Nature Challenge finished on Saturday, 16 Aug 2014 In this challenge show us examples where colours in nature harmonise together. I know that this is very subjective, but I'd like to see what colours YOU think are harmonious, and are pleasing in YOUR eyes. I'm not just referring to 'complementary colours' of red-green, yellow-violet etc., but I want to see pictures which you find pleasing to view, and perhaps tell us why. Preferences for colour harmony can depend on gender, race, country of origin, climate etc. (Bright colours in the tropics look very out of place in colder countries, and muted pastel shades are 'lost' in places with bright clear sunshine). The subject of your photo should, where possible, be outside in the natural environment. Macro and close-ups welcome. Size, 1,600px maximum on the entry's longer side. Later, I'll host a challenge: 'A Riot of Colour', where you can showcase those colours which are discordant to you, and excessively flamboyant in nature.
Winner: The Lake Side view.
Dams Challenge finished on Friday, 15 Aug 2014 The dams are barriers that impound water streams and normally they are used to retain the water. Upload the picture of a dam - the picture may include the entire range, from the huge hydro-plant dams to the beaver built ones or natural dams.

Mona Lisa - 20th / 21st Century Challenge finished on Friday, 15 Aug 2014 This is a portrait challenge to recreate the famous painting. Imagine yourself with a camera, sitting next to Leonardo da Vinci when he was painting the Mona Lisa. Submit a photograph that resembles as much as possible that famous painting. Elements to consider in the photograph: your subject's look-alikeness to Mona Lisa, her costume, the pose, the background, the lighting, the chair, etc. The best photograph should be the one that when a viewer sees it, will quickly think it is a Mona Lisa interpretation. It is allowed to use your creativity in interpreting / re-interpreting the Mona Lisa, as long as the viewer can quickly think you are attempting to recreate the Mona Lisa. As for creative interpretation: one thought is to recreate a 50's Mona Lisa, a 60's Mona Lisa (hippie!!), 70's, 80's, 90's, etc.
