Shades of Brown in Nature Challenge finished on Saturday, 19 Sep 2015 Brown is an interesting colour in nature's palette. It is quite a soothing colour against which brighter yellows, greens, reds and blues and white display to their best advantage. Show us some examples of brown which you find in nature, perhaps tree bark, leaves, mushrooms, earth, sand or rocks, insects, birds or animals. Macro and close-ups welcome. The colour brown can range from dark chocolate brown, through to light brown, beige, or sand. Man-made structures should be minimal. Please no humans, domestic pets or birds deprived of their freedom. Size of entry: 1,600px on its longer side.

Please indicate which filter you used when editing your photo and if applicable your editing process. I have seen, from several people, that they will edit on their computer, transfer the photos to their iPads or phones, and will then add a filter to complete the photo.

Shallow Depth of Field (Suited to Mirrorless and SLR cameras) Challenge finished on Thursday, 17 Sep 2015 Choosing the right aperture to achieve a shallow depth of field is a paramount skill in manipulating camera settings for a desired effect. Earlier on in my photographic journey I had not associated aperture to depth of field, but once I realised the relationship it opened up a whole new field of possibilities. I am not going to tell you what aperture you should be using, instead I want you to research if you dont already know. Do a search on aperture and depth of field and you should find the answers. So what I am after is a shallow depth of field (a small portion of image in focus while the rest is out of focus). This skill is often used to isolate a subject. You need to take full control of your camera and either use M mode (M stands for Master in my book), or aperture priority...Get out there , research, and then shoot something wonderful! P.S, I will disqualify any images that I feel do not meet the brief. Good luck and good shooting.
Macro - Something Frosted or Frozen Challenge finished on Wednesday, 16 Sep 2015 Submit a macro photo of an object that is very cold and has frost on it or the subject is frozen or has frozen ice attached to it. I have strove, tried very hard, to offer challenges that are fresh, new, and unique to my past challenges. It has become more and more difficult to deliver new and fresh challenges that are not repeats of my past challenges, but I consider it a challenge to myself to offer new and fresh challenges to the community that aren't the simple repeats that other challenges often deliver. Cheers! And enjoy this challenge!
