Shades of Pink in Nature Challenge finished on Saturday, 05 Dec 2015 Pink, the colour somewhere between red and white, is an inviting, warm colour in nature's palette. History has linked it with love, beauty, femininity, sensitivity and romance. We see many shades and tones of pink in nature, from the palest pink of apple blossom, to the hot, hot pink of some birds, which almost hurts your eyes; leaves, salt lakes, rock crystals, birds or animals, shells and coral. Please think beyond sunrises or sunsets, they are just too easy. Man-made structures should be minimal. Please no humans, domestic pets or birds deprived of their freedom. Macro and close-ups welcome. Size of entry: 1,600 pixels on its longer side.
Winner: White flowers on a black background

Architectural Detail - Steel or other metal Challenge finished on Friday, 04 Dec 2015 Throughout history humans have been builders - a place to live, a place to work, worship, or play. In doing that they have chosen many materials with which to build and in many styles. In this challenge, show a detail of a structure that illustrates the use of steel or other metal as a significant element. It can be anything: a construction detail of an iron or steel bridge, a hinge on a door, or even the elegant shimmer of a copper downspout on a house - you pick. It must, however, be a detail of the item not the entire item - close up of the rivets, not the whole bridge, for example.
