Winner: In search of nector from heaven
A distant compact Challenge finished on Wednesday, 15 Apr 2009 This challenge is for compact cameras only, and specifically those with a long zoom. We're looking for those long distance shots you could only have captured with a big telephoto, the catch being it's got to be a compact camera's built in big zoom. We're looking for shots with lots of 'X', 20X, 24X, whatever you've got, give it your best.
Winner: Early morning at Capri.
I do like to be beside the seaside Challenge finished on Wednesday, 15 Apr 2009 Ok, sand may not be too good for your lenses but the seashore can be a great place to take photos. This challenge is about day trips to the seaside, so no sunsets, surfers or sea-based sports. And no-one said the weather has to be good.
Vignette Challenge finished on Monday, 13 Apr 2009 Vignetting is often seen by the unimaginative as an optical defect to be avoided at all costs. But it can be a powerful method of drawing attention to your subject, by reducing the visual impact of the surroundings and background. Show us pictures which use vignetting to help make their point.
Winner: Patent Pending at the Blender Theater
Unplugged Challenge finished on Sunday, 12 Apr 2009 Acoustic or the original version, watching live performances is an experience in itself. But photographing it can be tricky as the setup generally includes low or mixed lighting conditions. Other hindrances could be the distance between the performer and photographer, the crowd etc. Submit the best pictures you have captured.
Winner: "Wolf" and Boy
Scary stuff Challenge finished on Friday, 10 Apr 2009 Anything that scares you or gives you the creeps.
This is the Modern World Challenge finished on Wednesday, 08 Apr 2009 Modernist architecture isn't always a popular style, so here's a challenge to show the style at its best. If you're in London you can look for inspiration at the Le Courbusier exhibition - if you're anywhere else, you might be able to find examples of his work, or perhaps a Mies van der Rohe to get you going. Nothing too abstract though - once you can no longer tell it's a building, it's no longer eligible.
Winner: Minimal Landscape
The Lone Tree Challenge finished on Monday, 06 Apr 2009 A perennial favourite in landscape photography, the single tree on its own can lend scale to the vastness of the landscape around it, or convey a sense of bleakness and isolation. In this challenge, show us your favourite tree and how it fits into it's surroundings.
Postcard Challenge finished on Sunday, 05 Apr 2009 Go back through your travel pictures and hunt for an image that reflects the personality of a city or town you visited. If you had to send one image as a postcard to your loved one which one would it be? Every picture must accompany the name of the place as the title and a short description of why you think it represents the place.
Winner: Gokyo Ri
Valley Challenge finished on Friday, 03 Apr 2009 We're looking for the essence of the valley, the image conjured up in your minds eye when you think of the word. Composition hints would include stunning scenery, moody lighting, eerie weather.
Rubbish Challenge finished on Thursday, 02 Apr 2009 No, we don't want your rubbish pictures (now THAT would be a popular challenge I guess), instead we want images that show any kind of rubbish, be it round your house or out in the wild (if you live anywhere in the outskirts of London you should have plenty of photo opportunities) , photographed to make it look interesting or even 'attractive'.
