Durga Puja, also referred to as Durgotsava (‘Festival of Durga’) or Sharadotsav is an annual Hindu festival in South Asia that celebrates worship of the Hindu goddess Durga. In the states of West Bengal and Tripura in India, and in Bangladesh, it is the biggest festival of the year for Bengali hindus. It is also the most significant socio-cultural event in Bengali society. Nowadays, the Bengali diaspora arrange for Durga puja in countries such as the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Singapore and Kuwait, among others. For four days, the festival witnesses culmination of contemporary and traditional Bengali art-forms in the decorated "pandals" and idols. It becomes a visual feast of color and form.
