I am looking for your best photo of a shorebird. Examples include egrets, plovers, herons, pelicans, ospreys, sandpipers, avocets, gulls and many others.

Photos must be of birds commonly found along the seashore.

The bird/birds must be the main subject of the photo.

Thanks for the heads up, The host does include "Osprey" in his list of birds that he wants to see. However, while I also see lots Red Tail and Red Shouldered Hawks (and lots of turkey vultures too) at my local beach, I will save those images for future challenges. This is a great challenge! Lots of excellent entries! I have a picture of a coyote hunting shorebirds and wanted to title it " I like shorebirds too", but it's ideas like that, that usually get me DQd. Oh well, I'll find some thing else.

"Waders or shorebirds are birds of the order Charadriiformes commonly found along shorelines and mudflats that wade in order to forage for food (such as insects or crustaceans) in the mud or sand. The term "wader" is used in much of the world, while "shorebird" is used in North America, where "wader" may be used instead to refer to long-legged wading birds such as storks and herons. "

If ospreys are allowed, you need to allow everything from eagles to ducks. Even vultures are a common sight near the water where they eat dead birds...

I imagine the host will answer but in the meantime I don't think he does want to restrict this to long legged wading birds. He seems to want all birds that he associates with occurring habitually on ocean or saltwater seashores. He specifically excludes ducks but this seems to be ones that are habitually on fresh water, though it would be wise to avoid posting an entry of a sea duck, even those that rarely if ever are found on freshwater.
