Nature in the Shade

Challenge #233 in the Life in the Natural World series. Hosted by RuthC.
Challenge has finished
Shade: the slight darkness that is produced when something blocks the light of the sun. It's easy to take good pictures in sunlight, but more difficult when the subjects are in deep shade, low light, or if the light is very flat. Show us DAYTIME outdoors examples where there is no visible sunshine, perhaps because of heavy cloud cover, under the canopy of trees in a rain forest, over-hanging rocks or in caves. In this challenge I would prefer that you don't use flash or external subsidiary lighting, but instead rely on your camera to display the sense of shadiness. This is a nature challenge, so minimal evidence of people, pets, man-made constructions. Macro and close-ups welcome. Size of your entry: 1,600 pixels maximum.
