Shades of Brown in Nature

Challenge #167 in the Life in the Natural World series. Hosted by RuthC.
Challenge has finished
Brown is an interesting colour in nature's palette. It is quite a soothing colour against which brighter yellows, greens, reds and blues and white display to their best advantage. Show us some examples of brown which you find in nature, perhaps tree bark, leaves, mushrooms, earth, sand or rocks, insects, birds or animals. Macro and close-ups welcome. The colour brown can range from dark chocolate brown, through to light brown, beige, or sand. Man-made structures should be minimal. Please no humans, domestic pets or birds deprived of their freedom. Size of entry: 1,600px on its longer side.
