I was on honeymoon about 4 years ago in Turkey, an evening out from the resort we visited some town in Turkey, wife wanted to look at Sunglasses in a shop I hung around the doorway, stepping back to let someone pass by, I misjudged my footing tumbling down concrete steps to the pavement outside. Smashed the K-7 Pentax in to the ground, bits and pieces of the lens everywhere and torn ankle ligaments. 3 trips to hospital that week and a less than happy new wife. That sucked.

I had a motorbike accident 4 months ago in south korea. I was seriously enjured i staid at the hospital for almost two months after getting two surgeries for a bad fracture on my knee. It seems i will be able to put my leg on the floor in around a month. I cant wait since it has been 4 months that i live on one leg...
I hope you wont have too much issue with your shoulder in the future...especially ligaments which can be a problem. Good recovery to you and...amazing pictures :)

Indeed Germany offers lots of beautiful and interesting places for a photographer AND his family :-) If you are interested in old mines I can definately recommend Rammelsberg near Goslar - I went there a couple of weeks ago and came home with a heap of great shots.

Accidents happens more to photographers than anyone. Case point:
I was assign to take pictures to our group of divers somewhere in Pacific south of Guam Island and we've just been about less than 30 minutes underwater at 60 ft. and i was run out of air and my buddies are too far for help. I manage to swimp up at the surface without decompressing. Fortunately i'm fine. It's because there's not much compressed air inside my lungs to explode or to expand dangerously as i ascend to the surface at the speed not more than the speed of the bubbles that comming out from my mouth constantly.
I move a lot taking pictures on the shipwreck on different angles that time and thats probably the reason why i ran out of air faster than my buddies.

In some way, only picture 1 and 3 are of any tourist interest or value and reveal some of Luxemburg's beauty of the landscape. Number 2 is the basin of the tideal electricity system, fills up during day by pump up and flows down during night to produce electricity, powered by the river Our in the valley to pump up the water.

Can't praise your physical skills, but you have great taste in camera gear. I have the same combo and just love it. Looks great, perfect size, a joy to use and fantastic images. That 10-24 lens is a stunner. My Canon 5D Mk11 never gets used now. Whist I'm still a Canon fan, and have a G15 and S95, I feel Canon are falling behind in innovation.

First, I'm glad you are recovering. And your b/w work is very nice.

In my classes, I always try to include a fair amount of time addressing photography hazards. This initially focused on potentially irrate individuals on the street, those feeling themselves assaulted when they are included in an image.

Unfortunately, in recent years, I've had to emphasis not taking physical risks for projects. This, following one incident wherein a student working on an assignment: Unconventional Beauty stood on the shoulder of a freeway to photograph skids patterns on the vertical concrete center-divide. Excellent images - but ones demanding a long lens and more common sense.

Glad to learn you were reasonably OK following your accident.

I was in Vianden for a few days last mid-December and have an image shot from almost the same point as your #3. The difference is the hills were covered in mist from about the level of the roof of the white building (the Cafe du Pont) in the centre of your shot, and the castle can only just be made out.

Glad you are ok and some great shots were saved. 2 questions: are you concerned about getting a bit rusty in your skills by not shooting for weeks? As awkward as it may be, can you use your other hand and keep on shooting?

It would be neat if cameras used their electronic level circuit to detect the rapid acceleration of a fall and triggered photos in response. Some cameras already use the circuit to detect drops, like the RX100. I suppose that information could be used to void warranties.

I'm glad to hear you should recover fully from your injury and thanks for sharing your story. I really like your images and appreciate the post processing information.

There is potential risk when one gets caught up in the moment when photographing. I once was photographing a morning street scene in Paris when the side mirror of a bus that had made a wide turn knocked my camera out of my hands while I was composing the shot. Needless to say I was startled but fortunate I was not injured and just the lens hood was damaged.

OP was fortunate to only have a few nicks and bruises, and lost only his camera and not his life.

Years ago, I witnessed a photographer with a large format camera on tripod in Yosemite National Park, California, who was standing on a rock in the river, with his head under the dark cloth. He lost his footing on the wet rock, slipped , and was swept down river in the rapids. Camera and all. He drowned. Unfortunate accident.

Very glad you were okay and are getting better. Also glad to hear your insurance will cover the loss. I hope premiums don't increase. Glad to have your photos contributing to the forum.

Sorry to hear your camera is lost/damaged.
Buying a replacement for the camera should be easy.
A clean bill of health is priceless - get well soon and show us some more Eifel impressions. Thats a great place to go with a camera.

Love your photos! And glad to hear that the Fuji is working out for you. I've been working with an X E2 for several months now and am regularly amazed at the quality of the files, processed first with PhotoNinja and then tweaked with Capture One Pro. As much as I like the easy flow of Lightroom, it mushes up my X Trans files. Is photography a danger sport? Yes, maybe. I've spent time sitting precariously on rooftops here in Copenhagen, trying to get the right shot. Haven't slipped yet, but your experience makes me think that I should use safety ropes, just in case. Thanks for your insights!
