Viking Components, manufacturer of memory, storage and miniture I/O devices have today announced the addition of MultiMediaCards (flash storage cards about half the size of SmartMedia) to their product range. Pre-empting the requirement for MultiMediaCards Viking will be initially producing 16, 32 and 64 MB MMC cards.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 4, 2001-- Viking Components Inc., one of the world's largest and fastest-growing manufacturers of OEM and upgrade component technology, Thursday announced the introduction of MultiMediaCards (MMC) to its extensive line of flash memory products.
Viking's industry-standard MMC cards are among the smallest removable solid-state memory solutions in the world. The size of a postage stamp and weighing less than two grams, Viking MMC cards are rugged, reliable and easily transportable, making them the perfect storage solution for mobile applications such as mobile phones, pagers, PDAs, laptops, global positioning systems, as well as MP3 players and digital video cameras.

Viking's large line of flash memory includes CompactFlash(TM) cards in capacities up to 256 MB, SmartMedia(TM) in capacities up to 64 MB, PC Cards in capacities up to 1.5 GB, as well as the IntelliFlash(TM) USB flash memory readers/writers supporting the CompactFlash, SmartMedia, PC Card and Sony® Memory Stick® technologies.
Viking MMC cards conform to the specifications set by the MultiMediaCard Association and operate on low power to extend the battery life of mobile devices. Viking 16 MB and 32 MB MMC cards will be available in January from resellers nationwide. A 64 MB card is scheduled to ship in the first quarter of 2001.
