CANON INFORMATION SYSTEMS LICENSES ACD IMAGING SOFTWARE FOR LINE OF SMALL BUSINESS PERIPHERALS
Victoria, British Columbia - April 17, 2001 - ACD Systems International Inc. (TSE:ASA), the digital imaging company, announced that it has entered into a multi-year deal with Canon Information Systems Inc.of Irvine, California, which is a division of Canon Inc. (NYSE:CAJ) to license ACD's Software Development Kit for development of imaging applications based on ACDSee, the company's flagship software.
ACD's Software Development Kit (SDK) facilitates the development of 'plug-ins' for ACDSee, the world's most popular digital imaging software. Using the SDK, commercial licensees can design and build customized features that precisely match the imaging requirements of their customers.
Working with Canon Information Systems Inc., (CIS), ACD used the SDK to develop a digital image viewer that will be bundled with a future Canon product.
In addition, CIS has licensed the SDK to build a customized plug-in for the digital image viewer.
"ACDSee is a sophisticated but flexible platform software," said Peter Philipp, Program Manager, Canon Information Systems. "We are very pleased with how quickly we were able to use the SDK to customize imaging applications specific to the needs of Canon customers."
"ACD is delighted to work with the R&D team at CIS to enhance the consumer value of their products," said Doug Vandekerkhove, President and CEO of ACD Systems. "With OEMs like Canon entering into licensing agreements for our SDK, we are accelerating the penetration of ACDSee as the dominant platform for digital image management and generating a major new stream of licensing revenue for ACD Systems."
Financial terms of the licensing agreement were not disclosed.
Thanks to Doug Mick for spotting this.
