Britain's Natural History Museum has disclosed four of the winning images from the shortlist of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. With a judging panel chaired by Jim Brandenburg, the competition attracted almost 42,000 entries from 96 countries this year, and 100 of the best images will form a touring exhibition that the museum says will visit six continents. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the original competition that started in 1965, and which attracted just 361 entries.

The full list of winners will be announced on 21st October, with a £10,000 prize going to the single best image, and with cash prizes for five other adult categories and three youth winners. The exhibition will open at The Natural History Museum in London on 24th October, and will run there until 30th August 2015, with a series of events for the public during the opening weeks.
