Readers' Showcase: Zhi Yuen Yap

There's No Place I'd Rather Be (May 2015). The summit of Mt Ngauruhoe is one of my favourite viewpoints of the Tongariro National Park. Calm mornings like this are rare, so I decided to take a self-portrait. Photo and caption by Zhi Yuen Yap

It can seem that photographers lucky enough to live in New Zealand are cheating. They have constant access to scenery that most of the rest of us only dream of visiting. DPR reader Zhi Yuen Yap finds living there to be both a blessing and a curse. Getting off the beaten path to find unique locations can mean braving harsh, unpredictable weather and inhospitable terrain. Based on his photos, though, we'd say he's been pretty well rewarded for his troubles. Take a look at his work and find out more about him in our Q&A.
