Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD

The only optically-stabilised 24-70mm F2.8

The Tamron 24-70mm F2.8 VC is a fast normal zoom for full frame cameras which, uniquely, includes optical image stabilisation. This sets it apart from its Canon and Nikon counterparts, which are also substantially more expensive. But while it might be reasonable to suspect that this would mean significant compromises in other respects, it turns out that the Tamron gives up remarkably little in comparison.

In fact, the 24-70mm is optically excellent, giving attractive images in a wide range of situations. The ultrasonic-type focus motor is silent and pretty fast, and the image stabilisation works very well indeed. Build quality is pretty good too, including a degree of environmental sealing (Tamron describes the lens as drip-proof). Overall we were sufficiently impressed to give the lens a Gold Award in our review.
