A photographer on Chinese social network Sina Weibo recently posted pictures of his damaged Leica M9 camera and recounted the story behind it: he accidentally dropped the camera from a balcony onto the granite-topped pool deck below. Upon retrieving the camera, he discovered the granite tile had broken, but the M9 had survived.

The camera, as shown in the photos, suffered damage to the lens hood but was apparently otherwise unharmed.

According to Leica Store Hong Kong, which first reported on the Weibo post (gloriously translated from the original Chinese), 'The focusing and metering function of the camera are all well while only the hood is slightly deformed! Neither bullet nor granite could destroy a Leica camera in the world...'
