Premium optical brand Voigtländer has announced the price of the 10.5mm super wide angle lens that it first displayed at the Photokina trade show in September 2014. The Voigtländer Nokton 10.5mm f/0.95 is designed to be used with Micro Four Thirds cameras, and will be the fourth in the current line of f/0.95 lenses that the company offers. On sale at the end of this month, the lens will be priced £999 (which works out at roughly US $1500) – slightly more than the existing 17.5mm, and 20% more than 25mm and 42.5mm focal lengths in the company’s MFT series.

Like the other lenses in the MFT range, the 10.5mm f/0.95 features what Voigtländer calls a Selective Aperture Control System, which means that the manual aperture ring can be used with click stops for stills work or in click-less mode for shooting movies.

When fitted on a Micro Four Thirds camera the 10.5mm focal length will produce an angle of view equivalent to 21mm lens on a full frame system. The lens uses 13 elements in 10 groups, and weighs a hefty 586g/1.28lbs, while the iris closes to f/16 and uses 10 blades to form a circular aperture. Voigtländer says that resolution is 'very good' even when the aperture is used at its widest setting, due to the use of an aspherical element in the construction. The closest focus point is a remarkable 17cm/6.69 inches.

The lens measures 82.4mm in length and is 77mm at its widest point, and will use a 72mm filter thread. It will be available only in black, and comes with a petal hood.
