I broke my own "no food on Instagram" rule yesterday to take a photo of my little sister's adorable Thanksgiving cookie plate.

Instagram users love posting photos of food (which is not always an "Insta-do") and yesterday’s holiday feast in the U.S. inspired Instagrammers to upload 10 million photos that mentioned Thanksgiving-related words. At the 12:40 PST peak, Instagram users uploaded 226 Thanksgiving-related photos per second.

The influx of photos on the service broke “all records” on the photo sharing social network, more than doubling the number of posts made on the previous day.

This graph shows the rate of Thanksgiving-related photos posted on Instagram throughout the day.

“[W]e’re excited to see the intimacy and immediacy of the Instagram experience bring us all closer together over this holiday season,” said Instagram on its blog.

With the ever-increasing use of Instagram as a social networking platform, we will likely soon be seeing photos of three French hens, two turtledoves and a partridge in a pear tree.
