Flight Over Hostile Territory. An F-16C receives fuel over mountainous terrain. Notice the reflection of the boom in the bubble canopy. D700, 24-70mm. Photo and by Jon Pece

What are your lens considerations for shooting from the air? Do you have any favored camera gear for working from planes?

For my military shooting, I used Nikon's D700 and D800. The dynamic range of the D800 is really great, which has allowed me to get shots of the boom operator in relative darkness while also capturing an approaching receiver aircraft on a bright sunny day. I use the brush in Lightroom to raise the exposure on the boom operator to make him visible. The 36mp on the D800 has been excellent for getting stunning details on receiver aircraft.
