FotoNation Inc., leaders in digital camera connectivity, announced today the expansion of their FotoDeveloper(TM) family of products, by adding Java implementation to the existing Windows and embedded solutions.

FotoDeveloper enables simple connectivity to more than 100 of the most popular digital camera models to any PC application, imaging peripherals and now, Java clients.

JCam (, a pure-JAVA cross-platform software application for digital photography, developed by GESS Ltd., was one of the first products built on top of the Java FotoDeveloper. "JCam provides connectivity to a wide range of Digital Still Cameras on OS/2, Unix, Win32, Linux and Mac-PPC operating systems," said Dr. Peter Corcoran, CEO of GESS. "If you want to add digital photography into your application or appliance, then Java FotoDeveloper is the way to do it." The latest product to incorporate FotoDeveloper as the digital camera connectivity tool is Windows-2000 from Microsoft Corp. By including FotoDeveloper with the Windows-2000 OS, users will now be able to have direct connectivity to digital cameras from their operating system, enabling easy acquisition of digital photographs within their applications. FotoDeveloper(TM) is incorporated within insurance claim-estimation software from CCC information systems, ( and is available for integration with printing solutions from Peerless Systems, ( and as part of other imaging peripherals.

FotoNation's FotoDeveloper(TM) kit was formulated as a modular application, which allows effortless integration of new digital camera models without changing the core software.
