LG 360 CAM captures spherical images optimized for Google Street View
Korean electronics manufacturer LG announced a camera-centric G5 smartphone at Mobile World Congress this year. At the same time, the company announced a 360° camera that’s designed to create spherical stills and video that integrate easily with Google’s Street View app. The LG 360 CAM is a small handheld device that pairs with a smartphone to be controlled and to share its images. LG says that the 360 CAM is optimized for the Street View app, and that files shot with it can be uploaded without further conversion or processing.
The device uses a pair of cameras with 200° lenses and 13MP sensors that combine to produce 16MP images and the 360° view. Video is output in 2K 2560 x 1440 resolution, and is supported by a 5.1 audio system that uses three microphones.
Pricing and availability has yet to be announced.
