Cristina Mittermeier's resume is long, but it's easy to see the trend. Over a 20 year career, she's focused her energy on a number of conservation projects. Her background as a marine biologist and her experiences growing up in Mexico inform her photography, shining a light on the beauty of the wild, natural world.

Photos speak loudly, but so do actions, and Mittermeier has committed both her images and hard work toward wildlife preservation. She's a founder and former president of the International League of Conservation Photographers, and is now the Executive Director of SeaLegacy, an organization committed to protecting marine ecosystems.

Mittermeier hopes that her images will help others to better understand fragile ecosystems like our oceans. In her words, 'Understanding will come when we can see beyond the thin blue line and see the surge of life beating at its shores – trying always to find a new foothold on land.'

Take a look at Cristina Mittermeier's portfolio and follow her on Instagram to see more of her work. You can catch her as our Tuesday keynote speaker at PIX starting 5:15pm PT.
