Mitakon Speedmaster 135mm F1.4, world's fastest 135mm lens, is up for pre-order
ZY Optics, a Chinese company that sells lenses under brand name Mitakon, teased a massive lens on the Chinese social network Weibo over the weekend, the Mitakon Speedmaster 135mm F1.4. While the company revealed a few details at the time, it didn't specify when the lens would be available for pre-order. That changed on Monday, as the company is now offering $500 non-refundable deposits to those who want to reserve a unit.
The Mitakon Speedmaster 135mm F1.4 will become the fastest 135mm lens on the market. Weighing 3kg/6.6lb, it features an 11-bladed aperture controlled with a clickless aperture dial, and optical construction comprises 11 elements in 5 groups. The filter thread is a massive 105mm, and minimum focus distance is a similarly massive 1.6m / 5.2ft. The lens will be offered for Sony FE, Nikon, and Canon mounts. In a statement, the company said it will showcase a pre-production prototype at PhotoPlus Expo later this week.
The new Speedmaster is being offered at $2,999, and production will be limited to 100 units. Refunds are not available to those who pre-order and pay the deposit, with the exception of instances where an order is cancelled due to delivery issues. ZY Optics is tentatively planning an early 2016 shipping date, but that is subject to change.
