Odd One: Ohau Stream on NZ’s Kaikoura Coast is where many young seal pups perfect their aquatic abilities. But the low light make it a photographic challenge. A good spot for a fast prime – EF 85mm 1.8. Year - 2011. Photo and caption by Sarnim Dean

Which subjects do you find most challenging?

Live music shows are a challenge. One of the attractions of mirrorless for me is the purported focus accuracy. In my experience, the phase detection focusing concept of DSLRs is not reliable wide open in low light.

Another challenge is capturing beautiful landscapes in the middle of the day, though certain techniques help. Finally, freezing the native NZ fantail bird, in flight, is also a real mission - one that has alluded me thus far.
