Readers' Showcase: Sarnim Dean

Be Still. 4 am, June 2015. Lake Rotoiti, NZ. I spent the previous day scoping compositions considering the position of the Milky Way, and was pleased with how this turned out. Samyang 14mm 2.8 on an EOS 6D, on a Vanguard Veo tripod – on a seriously slippery jetty! Photo and caption by Sarnim Dean

How did you get into photography? What was your first camera?

For young Kiwis, an OE (Overseas Expedition) is a rite of passage. While OE-ing around Europe in the mid-90's, I really enjoyed recording my adventure on my compact Pentax Espio film camera. (And I'd always loved playing with Dad's Pentax SLR as a kid, even if he wasn't so keen on that!) But the hobby lay dormant until 2009 when I stepped into the world of digital with a Canon EOS 500D (T1i).
