Canon has introduced five PowerShot models, ranging from budget ELPHs to midrange superzooms. The first of the superzooms is the SX610 HS, which has an F3.8-6.9, 25-450mm equiv. lens with 'intelligent' image stabilization, 20.2MP BSI-CMOS sensor, and DIGIC 4+ processor. Photos and 1080/30p videos can be composed on a fixed 3" LCD and shared via the built-in Wi-Fi (with 'active' NFC) system. The SX610 will be available in February at an MSRP of $249 in black, white, and red.

For more horsepower and zoom power you can step up to the PowerShot SX710 HS, which uses the faster DIGIC 6 processor along with a 20MP BSI-CMOS sensor. The lens range is bumped up as well, to 25-750mm equiv., with a maximum aperture range of F3.2-6.9. Other features include a 3" LCD, 1080/60p video, numerous special effects (for stills and movies), and Wi-Fi w/NFC. The SX710 HS also ships in February for $349. Sorry color fans, this one only comes in black.

If maximum zoom is the priority, there's the PowerShot SX530 HS. This F3.4-6.5, 50X optical zoom is equivalent to a whopping 24-1200mm. As you'd hope, the lens is stabilized via Canon's "Intelligent IS" system and offers a Zoom Framing Assist to quickly zoom out so you can recompose and then zoom back in. The SX530 features a 16MP BSI-CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 4+ processor (only the SX710 has the DIGIC 6). Video can be recorded at 30p and reviewed on a 3" LCD. Like the two models above, the SX530 supports Wi-Fi with NFC. It will be available in black at a price of $429.

The compact ELPH cameras (known as IXUS outside of the US) is now Canon's budget line. The first of the two new models is the PowerShot ELPH 170 IS, which has a 20MP CCD, F3.6-7.0 (ouch) 25-300mm lens, and optical image stabilization. It also sports a Smart Auto mode with scene selection, 2.7" LCD, and 720p video. It will come in blue, silver, and black at a price of $149. If you really want to save money there's the ELPH 160, which has an F3.2-6.9, 28-224mm lens but no optical image stabilization. This model comes in black, white, silver, and red for just $119.

The PowerShot SX530 HS

With a 50x Optical Zoom lens (equivalent to 24-1200mm) and Canon's Optical Image Stabilization, the camera is ideal for those with active lifestyles who want to take high-quality close-up shots of their travel adventures or weekend getaways. And with Wi-Fi and NFC capabilities, users can easily share and print their special images wirelessly. In addition to featuring a powerful optical zoom range and wireless options, the SX530 HS digital camera combines a 16 Megapixelⁱⁱ  High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor and Canon's DIGIC 4+ Image Processor to create the Canon HS System allowing for excellent low-light performance.

The PowerShot SX710 HS
Based on the successful PowerShot SX700 HS model, the PowerShot SX710 HS digital camera features Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity with an impressive 30x Optical Zoom lens (equivalent to 25-750mm). The 20.3-Megapixelⁱⁱ High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor and Canon's DIGIC 6 Image Processor work together to create the Canon HS System allowing for excellent low-light performance. In addition, the camera's Intelligent IS helps optimize image stabilization in a variety of shooting conditions whether shooting stills or video.

Zoom Framing Assist helps make it easier to keep distant subjects in the field of view, even if the subject is in motion. The camera also records high-quality 1080p Full HD video at up to 60 frames per second through a dedicated movie button. Hybrid AUTO automatically recognizes the scene and optimizes camera settings to capture the high image quality for still photos while simultaneously creating a great looking highlight reel in 720p HD video.
