Best gifts for photographers in 2020

I had hoped to treat myself an EOS RP, assuming there would be sales during black Friday/ cyber Monday... but there were none in my country. Literally no relevant deals for photographic equipment at all, aside from various RX100 or alpha a6x00.
Overall, the whole rebate craze was a let down so I bought - nothing. :-)
But the fact that photographic equipment has become so expensive lately gives little wonder why 99% of the planet makes do with cell phone pics.

The best gift for photographers is always cash because we're always saving up for something expensive - but for how obviously gimmicky it is, I suddenly REALLY want one of those shutter huggers. That sure would change how people feel about me pointing my camera at them!

None of these beat the "Filson 1970's Logger Thermal Socks" included in the 2019 list.

A useful gift that is never out of style.

The best gift, IMHO, is the gift card to a local or online photo-store.
No one knows what photographer wants better than this particular photographer.

If I want it, I'll buy it. If I don't buy it, I don't want it. Really simple.

So please let's dispense with that pointless gift orgy. If you feel you need to give somebody something, why not donate to a charity of your choice?

They multi tool is pretty dope, available on Amazon too but for a couple bucks more, I think I'll grab two the next time I place an order at Adorama.

And then there is always the option of picking a book by one of the hundreds or thousands of famous or less famous photographers out there. In a decades or two, or more, it will still be there to inspire.

I always hate it when people try to get me things related to photography. If I need something, I'll just get it. Otherwise, it's just a waste, probably never get used, and end up in the landfill.
Send a card. That's just fine.

Don't purchase landfill this Christmas, instead, spend some time with your favourite photographer.

I'd say the best gift you can give anyone, especially your family this year's holidays, is being smart, responsible and staying safe. I'm sure no one will be happy to see medical bills stuffed in a stocking.

The Shutter Huggers seem like a good idea if you have little kids... except I'm imagining the look of horror on their faces when they realize the cute little animal has been skewered by the lens! The dalmation seems particularly ill conceived in that for some ungodly reason they made its body around the lens dark red -- looking like its bloody punctured midsection was turned outward when the lens pushed through him. If Disney killing Bambi's mom didn't cause enough kid nightmares.... ;-)

Many, not all, high grade UV filters can be had for $50-$100.

A perpetual license of the latest PhotoShop Elements is usually about $80, and PSE accepts many PS CC plug-ins.

Topaz Lab's Denoise AI is $80, before sale pricing.

For many digital cameras, extra li-ion batteries cost less than $100, and in cases many not included external chargers can be purchased for less than $50.

The excellent SD card cases from Gepe are about $20. Haven't tried Gepe cases for other card types except to say the prices are about $30 or less.

I'm glad to see that dpr is recommending against purchasing frivolous items that would just "add to the world's landfill sites", and pollute the seas.

Xmas is fun, but it's also the time of year which produces monumental quantities of garbage and novelty items than get a few days use before being consigned to a cupboard or a landfill site.

Most of it is *capable* of being recycled, but only a tiny fraction of recyclable products actually do get recycled.
