Photoshop CC 2015 update and Fuse CC (Preview) now available

Adobe has updated Photoshop CC 2015 with the new features it detailed a few weeks ago as its MAX conference. Among the new, mostly designer-oriented features is a high-contrast touch-enabled interface, the ability to customize your Photoshop CC toolbar, direct SVG importing, Artboard improvements and support for Fuse CC, a 3D design application. Nikon issues D750 and D4s firmware updates, optimizes D750 VR with compatible lenses

Nikon has released firmware updates for its D750 and D4S DSLRs, providing both with a new external recording control option for use with external recorders using Atomos Open Protocol. At the end of a list of bug fixes, Nikon also mentions that the D750's firmware version 1.10 introduces 'optimal vibration reduction' with vibration reduction lenses. Read more

Nikon D810 firmware C 1.10 now available

Nikon has released updated firmware for its D810 DSLR, taking the software from version C 1.02 to C 1.10. The new firmware brings with it several changes, the majority of which are bug fixes. In addition to correcting issues, v1.10 adds an external recording control option for using the camera to start and stop third-party recorders connected over HDMI. Read more

Leica T firmware 1.4 promises to boost AF speed and overall camera responsiveness

Leica has released a major firmware update for its T (Typ 701) APS-C mirrorless camera. Firmware 1.4 promises to make autofocus twice as fast, and improves touchscreen responsiveness by three times. The company has also announced plans to release two new prime lenses for the T in 2016. Read more

Phase One has today introduced a firmware update for its new XF system, announced in June. Sony a7R II uncompressed Raw firmware update available October 19

Last month Sony promised to address a key concern of a7-series camera owners with a firmware update adding 14-bit uncompressed Raw support. The a7R II was named as the first in line to get the update, and Sony has confirmed that the firmware version will come Monday, October 19. Read more

Adobe issues Lightroom 6.2 apology and update

Adobe has issued an apology over the 'significant crashing bug' introduced in Lightroom 6.2. The latest version of the software was released last Monday, and brought with it a redesigned import experience. That new experience, unfortunately, also introduced instability into Lightroom and removed some import functions; users reported issues with the software crashing and running poorly. Read more

Adobe Camera Raw 9.2 adds local dehaze

Adobe has released Camera Raw 9.2, introducing a local version of its new dehaze adjustment. ACR 9.2 also adds support for the DxO ONE, though not for the camera's SuperRAW files. Other cameras supported by the update are the Olympus OM-D E-M10 II, Sony Alpha 7S II and Leica S (Typ 007). Read more

Adobe Creative Cloud update introduces de-haze feature and speedier healing brush

Adobe has announced a number of updates to its Creative Cloud suite, including some feature enhancements and additions to Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC. A previously demonstrated de-haze tool has been added to CC versions of Photoshop and Lightroom, and the effects of Photoshop's popular healing brush will now be displayed in real time as the tool is used. Adobe has also launched 'Stock', a stock photo service that Creative Cloud users can post to directly from their CC accounts. Read more

Nikon D3200 firmware C 1.04 available

Nikon has released firmware 1.04 for the D3200. This update addresses an issue with the camera's memory card slot, causing the access lamp to light for too long or the camera to give an error while accessing the memory card. Read more

Samsung releases NX1 firmware update, with improvements for both photo and video

Samsung has announced yet another firmware update for its flagship NX1 mirrorless camera. The company has been good about providing useful updates for the NX1, and firmware version 1.30 continues this trend. Apple Digital Camera Raw 6.04 extends support to Canon EOS 5DS / 5DS R and Panasonic CM1

Apple has extended system-wide Raw support for 14 additional cameras, including Canon's newest flagship DSLRs. Digital Camera Raw 6.04 also brings Raw support to OS X Yosemite for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 smartphone, Nikon D7200 and Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II among others. Read more

Sigma service notice advises of Canon 750D and 760D Live View issue

Sigma has issued a service notice advising that some of its Canon mount interchangeable lenses cannot be used with Live Mode on the Canon EOS Rebel T6s (760D) and the Canon EOS Rebel T6i (750D). Lens owners will receive a free firmware update to fix the problem, though the company has not provided a timeframe for when the update is expected. Adobe Camera Raw 9 released with Merge to HDR and Panorama features

With the launch of Lightroom 6 and Lightroom CC, Adobe has released Camera Raw 9 with some of the some added features. Merge to HDR and Panorama are now available in ACR, using Raw image data to automatically assemble HDR and panoramic images, which are output as DNG files. This eliminates the need to edit files before merging them in Photoshop. Read more

Firmware update enhances Nikon D4s features, including unlimited continuous shooting

Nikon has issued updated firmware for its D4s professional DSLR, altering the way numerous features operate on the camera. Changes include removing the limitation on the number of images that can be captured in a single continuous burst in the manual and shutter priority exposure modes. Firmware version 1.20 replaces versions 1.00 and 1.10, and appears to fix quite a range of glitches as well as adding functionality to the camera's operation. Read more

Pentax DSLRs gain firmware updates to accommodate new lenses

Ricoh has released new firmware for three of its DSLR cameras in preparation for the arrival of new HD lenses to the K-series. The Pentax K-3, K-S2 and K-S1 will receive updates that allow them to get the most out of the forthcoming HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6ED DC AW and HD Pentax-D FA*70-200mm f/2.8 ED DC AW lenses, while the K-3 and K-S1 also gain compatibility with the HD Pentax-DA 18-50mm f/4-5.6 DC WR RE standard zoom. Read more

Nikon firmware update to allow improved communication with Atomos recording devices

Nikon has announced that it will release new firmware for three of its DSLRs, improving their ability to communicate with the Atomos Shogun and Ninja-2 external video recording devices. Reikan announces major update to FoCal AF tuning software

Reikan has announced a major update to its AF tuning software, FoCal. FoCal automates the process of calibrating your lens to your DSLR camera body, important - if not absolutely necessary - for critical focus when using fast lenses that yield shallow depth-of-field. Adobe has released the final version of Camera Raw 8.8 for Photoshop CC/CS6. Support for several additional Canon, Panasonic, and Fujifilm cameras have been added, as well as the Hasselblad Stellar II, Nikon D5500, and Olympus OM-D E-M5 II, among others. Read more

Atomos releases important firmware update for Shogun recorder

Atomos has released a major firmware update to the Atomos Shogun 4K external video recorder. The Shogun, already popular among filmmakers and professional videographers thanks to its 4K 10-bit ProRes recording capabilities, gains several important features that should appeal to motion picture shooters. Fujifilm adds film simulation to Raw File Converter EX 2.0 and tethered shooting for X-T1

Fujifilm is to release a new version of its Raw File Converter EX at the end of the month, bringing the film simulation modes used in its X-series cameras to the Silkypix-based desktop software package. Initially the new feature will be available for files shot with X-T1, X-A2, X100T, X30 and XQ2 cameras, but the company has said that other models will be included in a further update at a later time. Read more

Olympus announces OM-D E-M1 firmware version 3.0

The Olympus OM-D E-M1 is about to get an update with the release of firmware version 3.0 later this month. The update's primary function is to boost maximum framerate from 6.5 fps to 9 when shooting in continuous AF mode, thanks to enhancements for the camera's 37-point phase-detect algorithm. Read more

Canon offers EOS 5D Mark III and EOS-1D X firmware updates

Canon has released firmware updates for its EOS 5D Mark III and EOS-1D X DSLRs. Both updates claim to improve the user's ability to control autofocus in Live View mode when wide angle lenses are used. Sigma promises firmware fix for Pentax mount 17-70mm f/2.8-4 lens

Sigma has acknowledged a problem that Pentax users are suffering from when the company’s 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro HSM Contemporary lens is used on Pentax DSLR bodies with in-camera image stabilization activated. To rectify the issue the lens manufacturer has promised a firmware update for the lens, but hasn't yet specified a release date. Read more

Phase One updates tethering and Raw conversion with Capture One 8.1

Camera and software manufacturer Phase One has released a new version of its Capture One Raw file converter that includes new tools, added flexibility and options, as well as support for additional cameras. Updating the version 8 that was made available in September 2014, Capture One 8.1 allows users to edit files in other applications, such as Photoshop, from inside the program and it now allows up to 16 adjustment layers to be used at one time. Read more

Fujifilm announces macro tubes, tethering software and X-series firmware availability

Canon updates Digital Photo Professional to version 4.1.50

Canon has updated its Digital Photo Professional 4 (DPP) software to version 4.1.50. The update brings support for a couple of new lenses and several camera models, improvements to multiple functions, and compatibility with 64-bit native environments, among other things. Sony Alpha 77 II firmware update improves AF speed

Sony has released a firmware update for the SLT-a77 II, its 24MP semi-pro APS-C camera. Firmware 2.00 claims improved autofocus speed in all light conditions, but notably a 2.5x improvement in low light. Support for XAVC-S full HD video recording is also added. Read more

DxO OpticsPro update adds Canon 7D II, GoPro Hero4 Black Edition support

DxO's latest update to its Optics Pro software, version 10.1, brings compatibility with several new camera models including the Canon EOS 7D Mark II, PowerShot G7 X and GoPro Hero4. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are also included, and this update also makes OpticsPro 10 compatible with star rating systems used by Lightroom and other programs using XMP data. Read more

Panasonic has announced another firmware update for the Lumix DMC-GH4, this one following closely after the update it pushed out in September enabling tethering and 4K photo mode. Sigma updates USB dock for new lenses

Lens manufacturer Sigma has issued an update to the firmware of its USB dock to make it compatible with the new 150-600mm f/5.6-6.3 DG OS HSM S and 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3DC Macro OS HSM lenses. Although these lenses are available in Sigma, Canon and Nikon mounts, the update for the USB dock does not yet cover these lenses in the Nikon fit, and Sigma hasn't indicated when it will. Read more

Adobe rolls out CC update with new desktop and mobile tools

Adobe has announced updates to several of its mobile and desktop software applications, just in time to kick off the company's Adobe Max conference. While Photoshop itself only receives a couple of minor updates, such as more 3D printing profiles, there are some interesting new features added to the Adobe ecosystem. Among them is a new Libraries feature, making it possible to save layers and graphic elements for use across apps and platforms. Read more

Canon's Digital Photo Professional software, commonly referred to as DPP, has just received updates to versions 4.0.2 and 3.14.41. Ricoh updates Pentax 645Z firmware for IMAGE Transmitter 2 software

Ricoh Imaging has released new firmware for its Pentax 645Z medium format camera to make it compatible with the latest version of the company's IMAGE Transmitter software. Firmware version 1.10, which is available to download by users via the Ricoh website, allows Pentax’s second digital medium format camera to be controlled when tethered to a PC via USB cable, so images can be saved directly from the camera into a chosen folder as they are taken. Read more
