Adobe Lightroom CC 2015.4, Lightroom 6.4 and ACR 9.4 now available for download

Adobe has made updates available to its subscription and standalone Lightroom applications as well as Camera Raw. The updates bring with it a feature called 'Boundary Warp,' a tool that helps to straighten the curved edges of stitched panoramas so that the image is rectangular. Read more

Macphun Aurora HDR version 1.2 update released

Macphun has released Aurora HDR Pro version 1.2, adding a few new features and several improvements to its image editing software. The update includes support for .EXR and .HDR image files, compatibility with Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) Raw files, and support for Photos for Mac editing extensions. Read more

PaintShop Pro launches faster brush tools, in-app guide and tutorials with version X8.1

Software provider Corel has updated its PaintShop Pro X8 image manipulation program to include more help and guidance to enable users to find their way around the tools and features of the application. The update also brings what Corel describes as 'performance enhancements' across the application, but especially faster brush speeds. Read more

DxO brings OpticsPro extensions to Apple's Photos software for OSX

DxO is bringing its OpticsPro software to Apple's consumer-friendly Photos software for OSX. This $10 extension for Photos gives users full access to all of DxO's Optics Modules, which can correct optical distortion and aberrations as well as improving dynamic range and removing haze from landscapes. Also introduced is a free plug-in for users of DxO's ONE camera, which offers the same features mentioned above and supports the camera's SuperRAW files. Read more.

Alien Skin releases non-destructive photo editor Exposure X

Alien Skin has launched Exposure X, its non-destructive photo editor for Mac OS X and Windows. Exposure X is the successor to Exposure 7, and functions as both a plug-in for Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop as well as a standalone editor. Features include a revamped user interface, RAW image editing, and an import system that doesn't use a catalog file. Read more

Photoshop CC 2015 update and Fuse CC (Preview) now available

Adobe has updated Photoshop CC 2015 with the new features it detailed a few weeks ago as its MAX conference. Among the new, mostly designer-oriented features is a high-contrast touch-enabled interface, the ability to customize your Photoshop CC toolbar, direct SVG importing, Artboard improvements and support for Fuse CC, a 3D design application. Phase One has launched Capture One Pro 9, the latest iteration of its tethering and image editing software. Capture One Pro 9 offers a 'completely updated contrast engine,' additional brushes, color editor masks and new keyword tools, among other features. Read more

Alien Skin Exposure X 'nondestructive' photo editor to launch by year's end

Alien Skin Software plans to release a new 'nondestructive' photo editing application called Exposure X by the end of the year. Exposure X will include several changes over Exposure 7, including improvements to the user interface, file management tools, and new keyboard shortcuts. Read more

Software developer Macphun has announced a new package designed to help photographers to combine multiple exposures into HDR images. Created in partnership with HDR specialist Trey Ratcliff, Aurora HDR provides tools for a wide range of effects via manual controls and a collection of pre-sets. Read more

AfterShot Pro 2.3 offers missing link for Photoshop CS6 users with External Editor function option

The latest version of Corel's AfterShot image editing and Raw conversion application introduces a 'Send To External Editor' button that allows Raw files to be opened and worked on in AfterShot, then exported directly to Photoshop. This creates another way for PhotoShop CS6 customers to continue to add Raw support for new cameras to their workflow, in addition to Adobe's DNG converter application.  Read more

Adobe issues Lightroom 6.2 apology and update

Adobe has issued an apology over the 'significant crashing bug' introduced in Lightroom 6.2. The latest version of the software was released last Monday, and brought with it a redesigned import experience. That new experience, unfortunately, also introduced instability into Lightroom and removed some import functions; users reported issues with the software crashing and running poorly. Read more

Adobe launches Photoshop Fix, desktop and mobile app updates

Adobe has officially launched Photoshop Fix, a mobile app it demoed at Apple's iPad Pro launch in early September. Available today for iPad and iPhone, Photoshop Fix brings tools like the healing brush and liquify to mobile devices along with adjustments like paint and defocus. Read more

Corel introduces three new Pinnacle Studio 19 applications

Corel has introduced a trio of new versions of its video editing software applications: Pinnacle Studio 19 Ultimate, Pinnacle Studio 19 Plus, and Pinnacle Studio 19. A couple new features have been added to the software, including a new Multi-Camera Editor in each version of the application. In addition, the latest version offers support for 6th-generation Intel Core i7 processors. Read more

Adobe updates Elements applications with haze and shake removal, enhanced editing guidance

Adobe has announced updates to its Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements imaging applications that introduce some new features and a number of improvements. A de-haze filter, similar in effect to that used in Photoshop CC and Lightroom, helps to cut through atmospheric misting in Photoshop Elements 14, while Premiere Elements gains the ability to work with 4K footage. Corel releases ParticleShop brush plugin for Photoshop

Corel has released a new brush plugin for PhotoShop called ParticleShop. It uses Corel's Painter Particle brush technology to create photo-realistic effects like smoke, dust, fabric, fire, hair, lighting and fur. These effects are added to photos using brush strokes. Read more

Photoshop CC 2015.0.1 update addresses healing tool issue

Adobe has issued an update for Photoshop CC 2015 with a number of bug fixes. Notably, an issue with the healing brush tool has been addressed, as users reported that the tool was creating unwanted artifacts in images. Read more

Adobe Camera Raw 9.1.1 now available

Adobe has released Camera Raw version 9.1.1, adding Raw support for the Canon PowerShot G3 X, Leica Q (Typ 119) and Sony A7R II among others. Per a separate announcement yesterday, this will be the last update for CS6 users. Read more

Lytro ILLUM and Desktop software get major updates

Lytro has introduced major updates for its ILLUM light field camera and desktop software. ILLUM 2.0 provides a re-designed user interface and makes it possible to view and interact with full living pictures in camera. It also speeds up auto focus by using phase detection rather than relying on contrast detection. Read more

Photoshop alternative Affinity Photo now available in Mac App Store

In February, Serif launched a beta version of its image editing application Affinity Photo. The software is a Photoshop alternative designed specifically for Mac OS X, and the beta has been updated several times since the February launch. DxO OpticsPro 10.4.2 released with Canon EOS 5DS/R support

DxO has introduced OpticsPro 10.4.2, adding Raw support for Canon's EOS 5DS and 5DS R. Also added are 789 new camera/lens combination correction profiles. Updates for DxO FilmPack and DxO ViewPoint also make those applications fully compatible with Photoshop CC 2015. Read more

Adobe renews free trials of Creative Cloud 2015 to preview new features

Adobe recently updated its Creative Cloud suite of software, and to give users a chance to test the new features it has reset its product trials. This includes trial versions of Illustrator CC, InDesign CC, and Photoshop CC. Users, even those who have previously taken advantage of Adobe's 30-day free trial, can start a new trial by opening the software application and clicking 'Update'. Read more

Adobe Camera Raw 9.1 adds Dehaze feature and improves X-Trans support

Adobe has released the latest iterations of its Camera Raw plug-in and DNG converter software. In addition to adding support for more cameras and lenses, this update also adds Dehaze correction as well as local B&W adjustment sliders. Adobe Creative Cloud update introduces de-haze feature and speedier healing brush

Adobe has announced a number of updates to its Creative Cloud suite, including some feature enhancements and additions to Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC. A previously demonstrated de-haze tool has been added to CC versions of Photoshop and Lightroom, and the effects of Photoshop's popular healing brush will now be displayed in real time as the tool is used. Adobe has also launched 'Stock', a stock photo service that Creative Cloud users can post to directly from their CC accounts. Read more

Apple Digital Camera Raw 6.04 extends support to Canon EOS 5DS / 5DS R and Panasonic CM1

Apple has extended system-wide Raw support for 14 additional cameras, including Canon's newest flagship DSLRs. Digital Camera Raw 6.04 also brings Raw support to OS X Yosemite for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 smartphone, Nikon D7200 and Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II among others. Read more

Adobe Camera Raw 9 released with Merge to HDR and Panorama features

With the launch of Lightroom 6 and Lightroom CC, Adobe has released Camera Raw 9 with some of the some added features. Merge to HDR and Panorama are now available in ACR, using Raw image data to automatically assemble HDR and panoramic images, which are output as DNG files. This eliminates the need to edit files before merging them in Photoshop. Read more

Tiffen adds more filters, looks and faster processing with version 4 of its Dfx software

Tiffen has announced an updated version of its Dfx photo and video editing software that adds new filters, historic process simulations and extra tools, as well as wider compatibility with movie editing programs. Tiffen Dfx produces effects like those created by the company’s optical glass filters, with the latest version 4 adding 12 extra 'filters' to the menu system, including the company’s new Pearlescent and Satin diffusers. Read more

Reikan has announced a major update to its AF tuning software, FoCal. FoCal automates the process of calibrating your lens to your DSLR camera body, important - if not absolutely necessary - for critical focus when using fast lenses that yield shallow depth-of-field. Phase One's Capture One Pro 8.2 software now available

Phase One has released its new Capture One Pro 8.2 software, and with the update comes a new Color Balance Tool making it easier to produce color graded images, as well as additional ways to find images and support for higher resolution displays, including 4K. As promised earlier this month, Nikon has made its ViewNX-i software available for download today today. Serif launches Affinity Photo, a Photoshop alternative for Mac

Serif has launched Affinity Photo software, an alternative to Adobe Photoshop for Mac users. The company touches on a couple different notable selling points: its software is considerably cheaper than Photoshop, but no less robust, and comes with the added benefit of silky-smooth operation, at least according to its maker. Adobe details OS support for next version of Lightroom

In a new blog post, Adobe has said Lightroom 6 will require a 64-bit operating system, meaning it will only run in 64-bit versions of Windows 7, or OS X 10.8 or newer. The announcement suggests Lightroom 6 will continue as a stand-alone application, rather than being swallowed into the company's subscription-only Creative Cloud program. Read more

Phase One updates tethering and Raw conversion with Capture One 8.1

Camera and software manufacturer Phase One has released a new version of its Capture One Raw file converter that includes new tools, added flexibility and options, as well as support for additional cameras. Updating the version 8 that was made available in September 2014, Capture One 8.1 allows users to edit files in other applications, such as Photoshop, from inside the program and it now allows up to 16 adjustment layers to be used at one time. Read more

Adobe releases new 'Aperture Importer' plugin for Lightroom

Following Apple's decision to cease development of Aperture, Adobe has released a plugin for Lightroom that enables erstwhile Aperture users to easily port their old libraries into Adobe's ecosystem once and for all. Nikon releases Capture NX-D 1.0.3 and View NX 2.10.2

Adobe rolls out CC update with new desktop and mobile tools

Adobe has announced updates to several of its mobile and desktop software applications, just in time to kick off the company's Adobe Max conference. While Photoshop itself only receives a couple of minor updates, such as more 3D printing profiles, there are some interesting new features added to the Adobe ecosystem. Photoshop comes to Chrome OS in limited beta

It appears that Google's Chromebook laptops are finally getting Photoshop, at least in limited beta at first - starting with US-based Adobe education customers. According to a blogpost on the Google Chrome blog, Adobe Photoshop is now available in a limited beta release for Chromebook. U.S.-based Adobe education customers with a paid Creative Cloud account can apply for access to the program, which provides a streaming version of Photoshop to Chromebook users. Learn more

ACDSee Pro 8 and ACDSee 18 announced
