Korean lens manufacturer Samyang has added two new wide angle lenses to its Xeen series of full-frame video lenses. The new focal lengths are 14mm and 35mm, and while the 35mm conforms to the family-standard maximum aperture of T1.5, the 14mm opens only to T3.1. The Xeen system now contains a total of five lenses as these two join the existing 24mm, 50mm and 85mm. Read more

Korean lens manufacturer Samyang has announced two versions of a new 100mm macro lens. The 100mm F2.8 ED UMC Macro is designed for stills photographers, while the 100mm T3.1 VDSLR ED UMC Macro is aimed at those shooting video. The lenses are essentially the same internally, using 15 elements in 12 groups but the VDSLR version is fitted with an uncoupled aperture ring and gears around both aperture and focus controls. On March 27, Samyang and Rokinon teased a new lens on Facebook, saying that it would offer 'immense focus and unparalleled features'. That lens was officially introduced today, and it's a 100mm f2.8 Macro offering with 1:1 magnification and a 1ft. minimum focusing distance. Korean lens brand Samyang has announced that it will use the Photokina show next month to introduce a new 50mm f/1.4 lens for stills photographers and the same lens designed for videographers using DSLR and mirrorless cameras. Samyang has announced five new manual focus lenses, including a revised 'AE' version of its Canon-mount 35mm F1.4 which allows electronic aperture setting from the camera body. Meanwhile the Reflex 300mm F6.3 UMC CS is a mirror lens designed for APS-C SLRs, which will be available in Canon, Nikon, Sony Alpha and Four Thirds mounts. Finally there are three cinema versions of existing photo lenses - a 10mm T3.1 for APS-C SLRs, a 12mm T2.2 for mirrorless cameras, and a 7.5mm T3.8 fisheye for Micro Four Thirds.

Samyang has announced a wideangle prime for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, the 12mm F2.0 NCS CS. With manual focus and aperture control, it will offer an 18mm equivalent angle of view on cameras with APS-C sensors (19mm equiv on Canon EOS M), and 24mm equivalent on Micro Four Thirds. It uses nanocrystal coating to minimise flare and ghosting, and will be available in Canon M, Fujifilm X, Samsung NX, Sony E, and Micro Four Thirds mounts. Samyang Europe has introduced the SFH-14 filter holder for its 14mm 1:2.8 ED AS IF UMC lens. Along with the holder, three rectangular filters will be manufactured by Cokin. The SFH-14 will come in standard and V-DSLR cine versions. The holder comes with double slideways to use one or two filters at the same time and can be used both vertically and horizontally. Samyang has announced that, as promised in October, five of its full frame lenses are now available in Sony E-mount, and are therefore the first third-party optics with native mounts for the Sony A7 and A7R. The lenses are the 14mm F2.8, 24mm F1.4, 24mm F3.5 tilt-and-shift, 35mm F1.4, and 85mm F1.4. All feature manual focus and aperture operation and, because they're essentially SLR lenses with an adapter tube added, all are considerably more bulky than their Alpha mount counterparts. Samyang has announced the 10mm F2.8 ED AS NCS SC, a wide-angle manual focus prime for APS-C format cameras. It's the company's first lens to feature nano crystal coating for increased light transmission and reduced internal reflections. With a 15mm equivalent angle of view (20mm equivalent on Micro Four Thirds), it'll be made in mounts for all current SLR and mirrorless systems. It'll go on sale at the end of January 2014 at an RRP of £469.99 for Nikon AE mount, or £429.99 for all other versions.
Korean lens maker Samyang has announced that it will be offering a series of kits aimed at professional filmmakers, enthusiasts and film schools, consisting of a selection of its videography lenses housed in a protective hard case. Four kits will be available: wide-angle and standard three-lens kits for 35mm and Super 35mm cameras, a general-purpose three-lens kit for APS-C sensor camera, and a wide-ranging five-lens kit for 35mm and Super 35mm lens kits. Samyang has announced that it will be making five full frame lenses in E mount, which will be the first third party optics compatible with the A7 and A7R. The lenses are all based on existing designs, namely the 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC, 24mm f/1.4 ED AS IF UMC, 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC, 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC, and the T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC tilt-and-shift. All feature manual focus and aperture operation, and will be available within 2 months. As these are essentially SLR lenses with an adapter tube permanently fitted, they won't offer any of the size advantages achievable by 'native' lenses.

Rokinon has made available a video version of the Samyang 16mm f/2.0 prime. The 16mm T2.2 Cine lens is available for pre-order in Nikon F, Canon EF, Micro Four Thirds, Sony A, and Sony E mounts. Like other video primes, it offers focus and aperture racks for use with cinema rigs, stepless aperture control, and calibration in T-stops rather than F-stops. Rokinon's website lists compatible mounts for Pentax, Samsung NX and Fujifilm X though they aren't yet available for pre-order, and lists the lens at an MSRP of $499.

Samyang has announced two manual focus lenses for cameras with APS-C or Four Thirds type sensors, a 16mm f/2.0 wideangle for SLRs and mirrorless, and a 300mm f/6.3 for mirrorless. The 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS offers a 24mm-equivalent angle of view with an unusually bright maximum aperture, and comes in a wide range of mounts to fit almost every brand of camera. Its RRP is £419.99 / €395, or £459.99 / €435 for the Nikon mount 'AE' version. Meanwhile the Reflex 300mm f/6.3 ED UMC CS is a compact catadioptric or 'mirror' lens to fit Micro Four Thirds, Canon, Sony and Fujifilm models, and comes in a choice of silver or black for £289.99 / €259. Both will be available in July.

Photokina 2012: Samyang has announced that it will be showing a protoype of a 10mm 1:2.8 ED AS UMC CS lens at Photokina. With its 15mm-equivalent, 110 degree angle of view, it will be the widest-angle rectilinear prime lens for APS-C/DX format SLRs. As usual for Samyang, focusing will be manual only. The lens is expected to go on sale towards the end of 2012.

Samyang has announced it will be presenting a perspective control 24mm F3.5 lens at Photokina 2012. The Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC is a wide-angle, full-frame lens that offers tilt and shift movements, allowing control of subject geometry and depth of field. It offers up to 12mm of shift and 8.5° of tilt; the shift movement can be rotated +/- 90° relative to the lens mount, and the tilt movement 90° relative to the shift axis, allowing lots of flexibility over adjustments. The lens will be available in Canon EF, Nikon F, Pentax K and Sony Alpha mounts.

They're distinguished by racks on their focus and aperture rings for use with cinema rigs, stepless aperture control, calibration in T-stops rather than F-stops, and scales that are marked to be read from the side of the camera. The three lenses are known as the Samyang T1.5 35mm AS UMC, Samyang T1.5 24mm ED AS IF UMC and Samyang T3.1 14mm ED AS IF UMC, and will be made in Canon and Nikon mounts. They'll go on sale towards the end of August at prices to be announced.

Samyang has announced an 8mm F2.8 fish-eye lens for Samsung NX and the Sony E-mount used on its NEX mirrorless cameras. The 8mm F2.8 version comes in addition to the existing F3.5 fish-eye intended for the NEX VG10 camcorder. The F2.8 features ten lens elements in eight groups (rather than the F3.5's 10/7 design), including one aspherical element and two ED (extra low dispersion glass) elements. Pricing and availability details have not yet been announced.

Samyang has updated its 8mm F3.5 fisheye lens in Nikon mount, adding a CPU to allow better-integrated operation in auto exposure modes. The Samyang AE 8mm 1:3.5 Aspherical IF MC Fish-eye CS allows for full control over exposure from the camera, enables i-TTL flash exposure control, and records lens-related data into image EXIF data. Like its predecessor, the optical design includes 10 elements in 7 groups, with one hybrid aspheric element. The lens is manual focus only, and is designed for use on DX format SLRs. It will be priced at €325 (approx $430 / £280).
