The Weather Channel has announced the winners of its inaugural photo contest. Photographers submitted images that best capture the spirit of the Weather Channel's 'It's Amazing Out There' tagline. The Weather Channel and Toyota have announced a photographic contest with a $15,000 top award and thousands more in other prizes for the runners up in three categories. Photographic submissions 'should showcase a passion for nature, adventure, travel or weather'. Datacolor has announced its Great Alaskan Photo Expedition Sweepstakes, an online contest that offers an all-expense-paid trip to Cook Inlet, Alaska. American photographer Sara Naomi Lewkowicz was named as 2014's L'Iris d'Or/Sony World Photography Awards Photographer of the Year. Smithsonian.com has announced 60 finalists for its 11th annual photo contest. More than 50,000 photographs were submitted by photographers from 132 different countries. Call for entries: Getty Images grants

Getty Images has announced a call for entries for its Getty Grants, a series of photographic grants for editorial and portrait photographers totaling $130,000 (~£77,737). To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of its grant program, Getty Images is offering six prizes for editorial photography, three creative grants for non-profits and individual photographers, and one for portrait photographers. Learn more

Call for entries: W. Eugene Smith Grant for Humanistic Photography

The W. Eugene Smith Grant for Humanistic Photography is seeking entrants to win a $30,000 (~£18,062) grant to work on a current or future documentary project, and up to $5,000 (~£3,010) if a finalist is deemed 'worthy of special recognition'. Up to forty images may be submitted for the grant. Photos must be from an ongoing project but can include past work that is representative of the photographer's vision of a proposed project. Deadline for submission is May 31, 2014. Learn more 

Ricoh to give away cameras for 'photojournalism' competition

Ricoh Imaging Company has announced an advertorial feature on cnn.com called 'Spherical Report 360', where 360 people will be selected to receive a free Ricoh Theta spherical camera to shoot local news and events. Images taken with the Theta will then be judged for a Pentax K-3 grand prize. To be considered for a free Theta camera visit the Spherical Report 360 website for application guidelines. Applications will be accepted between March 27, 2014 through April 10, 2014. Learn more

The winners of the 2014 World Press Photo Multimedia contest have been announced and the work represents a staggering array of subjects and documentary styles. The international jury selected first, second and third place winners in three categories: Short Feature, Long Feature and Interactive Documentary. Learn more

John Stanmeyer wins World Press Photo of the Year

American photographer John Stanmeyer's image of migrants on the shore of Djibouti city raising their cell phones attempting to capture a signal from neighboring Somalia was named World Press Photo of the Year. The picture also won first prize in the Contemporary Issues category. Stanmeyer of the VII Photo Agency was on assignment for National Geographic when he shot the photograph. Learn more

One of the premier photojournalism competitions, the 2014 World Press Photo contest, is now open for entries to professional photographers. The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2014 and the winners will be announced on February 14, 2014. The top award, the World Press Photo of the Year, carries a cash prize of €10,000 (~$13,764). Learn more

Nat Geo photo contest offers Galapagos expedition grand prize

The 2013 National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest is accepting submissions. Now in its 25th year, this photo contest offers a top prize that includes a 10-day expedition to the Galapagos Islands and publication of the winning image in the upcoming December/January edition of National Geographic Traveler magazine. The entry fee is $15 per image and contestants can submit as many images as they wish. Submissions must be received by June 30. World Press Photo announces 2013 contest winners

Swedish photographer Paul Hansen has won the World Press Photo 2013 award for his picture of a Palestinian family carrying two children who were killed in an Israeli missile strike to their funeral. The contest also awarded prizes in eight other categories ranging from Sports to Portraits.
