Bag manufacturer Case Logic has launched a new backpack that features a hammock system, suspending a DSLR with lens attached within the space in the middle of the bag. Metabones creates Speed Booster ULTRA with improved optics and Canon lens AF for Panasonic users

Caldwell Photographic and Metabones have announced the Speed Booster Ultra for Micro Four Thirds: an updated design that uses more sophisticated glass and has been optimized for use with the relatively thick Micro Four Thirds filter stack. The latest Canon version also gains AF-S autofocus when used with Panasonic cameras: an improvement available via firmware update for existing users. Read more

Kenko updates Teleplus tele-converters to record EXIF data for Canon EOS bodies

Kenko has introduced updated versions of its Teleplus teleconverters for lenses in the Canon EOS EF and EF-S fits with new circuitry that allows EXIF data from the lens in use to be recorded by the body. The Teleplus 2.0x HD DGX and 1.4x HD DGX converters use Hoya glass and offer full autofocusing facilities when matched with lenses with a wide enough maximum aperture. Read more

 

Cokin announces Nuances range of ND filters

Filter manufacturer Cokin has introduced a new range of neutral density filters that it claims are free of color casts and which block infrared light. Toshiba TransferJet 16GB SDHC card launches July 31 in Japan

Following some trade show demos, Toshiba is officially introducing a new 16GB SDHC card with TransferJet technology. The card, which looks to be available in Japan only first, is able to wirelessly transfer photos and videos from a camera to a TransferJet-compatible device. Read more

It is offered with Arca-Swiss compatible Top Lock and 200PL camera plates and features a spherical locking mechanism alongside a Triple Locking System, the latter of which stabilizes the camera's position and keeps it from drifting via a trio of wedges. Triggertrap expands compatibility to Apple Watch and Pebble smartwatches

Triggertrap has updated its Triggertrap Mobile app to make it compatible with the new Apple Watch and Pebble range of smartwatches. Canon GPS receiver GP-E2 firmware 2.0 adds T6i/T6s (760D/750D) and 5DS/5DS R support

Canon's external GPS receiver GP-E2 gets an update today to firmware 2.0, adding support for the Canon EOS Rebel T6s/T6i (760D/750D) and EOS 5DS/5DS R. The firmware update also fixes a couple of bugs related to the signal acquisition indicator light and the unit's built-in memory. Read more

Metabones introduces Speed Booster XL 0.64x for Panasonic GH4

Metabones has announced a new Speed Booster designed for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4. The Speed Booster XL 0.64x is designed to reduce the camera's 2x crop factor by 0.64x, meaning that in 4K video mode the GH4's 2.34x crop factor becomes 1.50x - Super 35 cine format. Read more

Miggo Agua IPX3 storm-proof camera bags launch on Kickstarter

Miggo, maker of non-traditional camera straps that convert into wraps, announced in April that it would launch its new 'storm-proof' camera bag Agua on Kickstarter in early June. That crowd-funding campaign is now live. The Miggo Agua bag has an IPX3-standard rating, which means it can protect gear from pouring rain and similar types of water exposure. Read more

Toshiba expands its Exceria Pro SD card line to include 64GB and 128GB models

Updated Electronics giant Toshiba has announced higher capacity models of its high-speed Exceria Pro SD cards, increasing the maximum storage available to 128GB. The 16GB and 32GB Exceria Pro cards have existed for some time in European markets. Toshiba claims they achieve read speeds of 260MB/s and write speeds of 240MB/s, and the new 64GB card is said to follow suit. The highest capacity 128GB card offers a read speed of 260MB/s but a write speed of 150MB/s. Read more

Ona introduces black version of the Leica M edition Berlin ll bag

US luxury camera bag brand Ona has announced a new black version of its Berlin ll messenger-style bag. Designed especially for the Leica M system, the Berlin was originally a limited edition model created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Leica, but the Berlin ll went on general release beyond Leica stores. Previously only available in the Vintage Bourbon tan finish, the black version of the Berlin has been created, according to Ona, because so many people asked for it. Read more

Town 30 Emissary camera bag features lens cap mount and customizable pockets

Toronto-based Town 30 has launched the Emissary Series camera bag on Kickstarter, where it is seeking funding for production of the photography-centric bags. The Emissary is geared specifically to photographers' needs with attachable pockets, a removable laptop compartment, a locking mechanism inspired by film-advance levers and a lens cap mount. Lee releases pricing for SW150 Mk ll filter system

Updated The Lee Filters SW150 Mk ll filter holder system for especially wideangle lenses is now shipping, and Lee has announced pricing for the holder, the adapter rings and the filters. The system is designed to allow filters to be held in front of the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED wideangle zoom without vignetting and uses a light seal to prevent reflections on the filter's rear surface. Read more

Ice Light 2 on the way with brighter LEDs and new battery system

Westcott has announced the second incarnation of its Ice Light LED lighting wand. Ice Light 2 promises to be 50% brighter than the previous model and comes equipped with Bluetooth for remote control and an interchangeable, rechargeable lithium ion battery. The light has a color temperature of 5500K, Color Rendering Index of 96 and a beam angle of 72.6 degrees. Read more

Ansix introduces LensPacks: Rear lens caps with Velcro for bags

Ansix Engineering has taken to Kickstarter with its LensPacks, a rear lens cap backed with Velcro that can be attached to the inside of a camera bag. It's designed to speed up lens changes - when a lens swap is necessary, the photographer can twist the current lens into the fixed lens cap, then twist a different lens off of another cap. Read more

Kipon adapter to allow AF with Canon lenses on Micro Four Thirds bodies

Chinese lens adapter manufacturer Kipon has announced plans to introduce the first adapter that allows AF operation when a Canon EF or EF-S lens is attached to a Micro Four Thirds camera body. Previous adapters have either been entirely manual or, more lately, offered aperture control, but the Shanghai-based company has said that its next model will allow full frame and APS-C EOS system lenses to focus automatically too. Read more

Manfrotto unveils Digital Director for iPad Air

Manfrotto has used the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show as launching pad for the Digital Director, a bracket designed to turn an iPad Air into an external monitor for Canon and Nikon DSLRs. By connecting the Digital Director to a camera via USB and opening the app of the same name, a Live View feed is provided and exposure settings can be controlled by the iPad. Read more

Fotodiox pays 'homage' to Hasselblad Stellar with wooden grip for Sony RX100 series

Accessories brand Fotodiox has introduced a cherry wood hand grip for the Sony Cyber-shot RX100 III that it says is 'inspired' by the Hasselblad Stellar special edition cameras first launched in 2013. At $59.95 it makes a somewhat more affordable solution, even when you add the price of the camera, than the $1650 Hasselblad wanted for last year's Stellar II. Read more

Venus Optics offers hotshoe Macro Twin Flash KX-800 with guide number of 190ft/58m

Chinese flash manufacturer Venus Optics has launched a double headed macro flash unit, claiming that it has the highest guide number in the world for such a device. The Kuangren Macro Twin Flash KX-800 uses a pair of flash heads on extending flexible arms that can be positioned in front of the lens for extreme close-up work. Another arm houses an LED light to help with focusing. Read more

LaCie updates Rugged Thunderbolt lineup with 1TB SSD option

LaCie has introduced a new Rugged Thunderbolt external drive, updating its lineup with a 1TB SSD. This is double the previous Rugged drive's 500GB capacity, and is coupled with a rugged external housing able to withstand water exposure, shock, and dust. The inclusion of a Thunderbolt connection, meanwhile, enables fast transfer speeds compared to typical external hard drive speeds. Read more

Datacolor offers Spyder5 with redesigned calibrator

Color management company Datacolor has announced a new version of its Spyder monitor calibrating tool that it claims offers up to 55% improvement in tonal response, leading to 'more accurate shadow detail and smoother gradients.' Lee Filters introduces updates to super-wide SW system to fit more lenses and reduce flare

A new version of the Lee Filters SW150 system holder has been introduced that allows compatibility with a broader range of extreme wide angle lenses, and which has been designed to reduce the impact of reflections from the rear surface of fitted filters. Accessories manufacturer Manfrotto has announced a new series of consumer LED lights that offer portable continuous output for stills and video photographers. The Lumie Art, Play and Muse lights are powered by a USB rechargeable Lithium-ion battery that is said to deliver over an hour’s worth of continuous lighting. While the Art and Play models come with a hotshoe adapter and a tripod mount, the Muse additionally has a ball and socket head that makes angling the light easy. Read more

Nissin launches radio-controlled Di700A and Commander Air 1 wireless flash system

Independent Japanese flash manufacturer Nissin has announced a new wireless flash system that uses radio transmission. The first gun to be compatible with the company’s Nissin Air System (NAS) will be an adapted version of the Di700 flash unit. The Di700A will have the same specification as the GN48m/157ft current model, but will also feature a 2.4GHz radio transmitter that will be able to communicate with other NAS guns and the Nissin Commander Air 1 command unit from a distance of up to 30m. Read more

Tokina to launch water dispersing filter coating and IR-cut ND range

Japanese optical manufacturer Tokina is showing a hydrophilic filter coating that forces water droplets to spread into a thin film so that they become invisible to the camera. Japanese filter brand Marumi has introduced a collection of neutral density filters for its DHG (Digital High Grade) range including fixed density strengths of ND 8, 16, 32 and 64 as well as a variable ND filter with a range of ND 2.5-500. Ricoh releases inexpensive all-weather AF201FG external flash

Ricoh has announced the AF201FG external flash for Pentax interchangeable lens cameras. The AF201FG is weather-resistant, can tilt down ten degrees and up ninety, and has a  guide number of 20 meters at ISO 100. It also weighs just 141g (5oz). Phottix launches Indra 500 TTL mains or battery powered studio heads

Phottix has introduced a new studio flash head that can be powered via the mains in a studio environment or through a portable battery pack when flash is needed in the field. The Phottix Indra 500TTL offers 500 watts of output across eight settings from full power to 1/128th power and, according to Phottix, it can be synchronised with shutter durations as short as 1/8000sec. Read more

Light and Motion launches Sidekick companion light for GoPro on Kickstarter

Light & Motion has introduced a new GoPro companion light called the Sidekick, and is seeking funding for its production on Kickstarter.
