PhotoPlus Expo 2011 Report
Welcome to the Digital Photography Review PhotoPlus Expo International 2011 show report. This isn't the first time we've visited PPE, but it's the first time we've reported live from the show. PDN PhotoPlus International Conference + Expo is an important event in the US photo industry calendar, designed for professionals and enthusiasts in the photographic and imaging industries. PDN PhotoPlus Expo showcases the latest advances in photography. Attendees are able to explore hundreds of exhibits and attend a wide variety of photography and imaging seminars.
We don't expect to see many (if any) new products to be announced at the show itself, but this will be the first opportunity for many visitors to get their hands on recently launched cameras such as the Sony Alpha 77 and Nex 7, Canon EOS-1D X and the Nikon 1 system. We'll be talking to as many manufacturers as possible and will be publishing stand reports and videos directly from the show floor.
This page serves as the index for our final show report and will be the page for you to bookmark for regular updates during the show. This page will be updated live from the show floor during show hours.
We lined up for the new Apple iPhone 5s this morning, and Dpreview's Studio Manager Kelcey Smith wasted no time in getting it into our studio, to take a critical look at how its new camera performs.
At this year's PDN PhotoPlus Expo we caught up with photographer Christina Mittermeier who talked to us about her photographic travels as well as one of her favorite images.
We caught up with award-winning photographer Vincent Laforet to talk about the state of DSLR video, the projects he's currently working on, and where he sees the industry headed
The interviews are done, the pictures have been taken, the video footage is awaiting editing, and the dry sandwiches and warm coke have been consumed. We're heading home from PPE 2011 now, but here's a taste of some of the things that didn't quite make it into our other coverage.
Sigma is at PPE, showing off its huge range of lenses and (smaller) range of cameras, including the innovative SD1 DSLR. We got our hands on some of the latest products and met up with Rudy Guttosch of Foveon.
Panasonic has a small stand at this year's PPE but there's plenty to see. We got our hands on the latest G-series Micro Four Thirds Models, including the featherlight GF3.
Sony has had a busy year, and its stand is thronged with photographers who want to get their hands on the latest equipment.
Interview: We caught up with three Leica executives at the German company's stand and asked them about the past, present and future of the iconic camera manufacturer.
We visited the Canon stand and got hands-on time with its new EOS-1D X and Powershot S100, and spoke to Technical Advisor Chuck Westfall.
The Fujifilm stand is very busy this year, and all the buzz is around the X-series compact cameras, the APS-C format X100 and the recently announced X10. We grabbed ten minutes with Kayce Baker, Director of Marketing at Fujifilm US, and here's what she had to say.
Nikon is one of the biggest exhibitors at this year's show, and here's what we found when we visited the stand.
We caught up with senior Canon executives for an exclusive interview at the launch of the company's Pixma Pro-1 inkjet printer.
