Sony DSLR-A380 (RAW) vs. Nikon D5000 (RAW)
Sony DSLR-A380 (RAW)
Nikon D5000 (RAW)
4.2 MB JPEG (4592 x 3056)
3.4 MB JPEG (4288 x 2848)
Both cameras gain some extra image detail from the RAW process but on the Nikon the difference is more obvious. While the out-of-camera JPEGs are only marginally softer than the D5000's when shooting in RAW Nikon offers visibly better per-pixel sharpness and, despite its lower nominal resolution, more than catches up with the Sony in terms of image detail. Again, you'll have to look at very large output sizes though to spot a difference.
